At P's 6 month well check the pedi suggested we wean him off Prilosec and see how he does because most kids outgrow it by that age. Well, we did, and he's a mess, so we are starting him back on it today.
I guess I'm wondering at what point does it go from normal baby stuff to "maybe we should see a pedi GI about this."
still hasn't we have lessened to an as-needed basis with just zantac but she was on a full regiment of medication (prilosec am, zantac pm) until after 15m.
My son was also dairy soy intolerant so we worked with his gi on weaning him from his meds before we introduced dairy to see a true reaction, not one masked by meds.
He was off his meds at 11 months and then we spent the next month getting him on to dairy and soy.
Right around 9 months, a little under 16 lbs. She learned to sit up and then immediately stood up at 10 months. Like Willis Jackson kid, she is better, but still barfy.
ETA - I don't know if it's related, but she took also took a long time to transition to 100% WCM, like 4 months. We endured a lot of barfing until we realized it was the "must switch to 100% WCM at age 1" that was triggering it.

He's still on omeprazole. He's 4. A pH probe one year ago confirmed he's still having frequent and severe reflux episodes.
The GI docs are baffled. They want to do a gastric emptying study, but I'm opposed because he has no issues that would indicate issues with his stomach emptying too slowly. He has had way too much radiation in his life (swallow studies) and I don't want to expose him to more.
Mine outgrew hers around 18 months. It wasn't until she was walking for a few months before we were able to wean her off her meds. We never saw a pedi GI.
DD was on a high dosage (max dosage of Prevacid for her weight). Around 7 1/2 months, we cut her dosage in half. She did fine so two weeks later we dropped it entirely. I was concerned but it went fine. So, she was done with meds around 8 months.
Later than 6 months, bc she was definitely eating a few meals at that point. Maybe 8 months? We tried to wean off around his age too and quickly were like NOPE.
I would say around 6-9 months. It was when she really started eating more solids and didn't have the option really to spit stuff up. We basically kept her dosage the same and as she got bigger didn't adjust for weight and she didn't exhibit any problems so we stopped completely. She was on liquid Zantac.

DD1 didn't outgrow it until close to 18 months which Pretty late. Our pediatric GI thought it would be later then normal because of how bad it was, but didn't think it would be that late.

I think it's time to visit a different GI doctor.
Pm me if you want the name of our CC pedi GI. She is at the main campus downtown though.

Thanks! I have a recommendation for a CC doc, but I'm not sure. It's a long haul - over an hour away. Go ahead and PM me - I'm curious if it's the same doc that was recommended. Supposedly she's the best in the area.

Darn these responses aren't encouraging ? I thought people would say 6 months Dd is currently taking axid and her Dr prescribed prevacid. Our insurance won't Cover it until we try others so we're waiting for nexium approval

What is their reason for not covering it? Reading stuff like this makes me want to purchase the insurance company in the face.
DS1 we were able to stop at 9 months. DS2 we initially weaned off meds at about 15 months, but he had a bad GI bug a year ago that caused a resurgence He had to go back on Prevacid for about 6 months before we were able to wean off again. He's 4.5 yo now. FWIW (for the future) we've really liked the Buddy Bear Digestive Emzyme supplement for him. We've used it for the past few months and definitely noticed a decrease in how often he complains of belly pain (which is his sign that the reflux is bothering him).
