He probably does feel better because of the fluids. Of course.
When I had strep in college the insurance line nurse said to only go to ER (it was a holiday weekend and no urgent care there) if it got to the point where I couldn't swallow my own spit. But I'm thinking if he was able to have all these conversations with you, his mom, his sister, etc he probably wasn't at that point.

The last time I had strep, it was REALLY painful. I kept a cup with me to spit out my saliva since it hurt too much to swallow. Plus, I had a fever and my entire body ached. So I tend to sympathize with your husband here. Although I personally would not have gone to the ER if it would cost 2k.
omg. OP, I'm sorry. I would be in a blind rage over the combination of the deadly man-strep and the helicopter MIL. Her offer to pay for the ER visit would actually make me even more mad than the bill, because omfg, how old are we?
This is the sort of thing that I'd tell him to call the off-hours number at his PCP's office and see if they can help sooner than Monday, or maybe--maybe--urgent care. But the ER? lol, no.
No way I would have gone to the ER or suggested an H/SO go to the ER with those symptoms. Mainly, because of the cost and time involved in an ER trip. Glad he's feeling better though!
