Okay I'm back to pass judgement. I find the new catalog to be short on inspirational photos and not particularly useful. It was page after page of, "Meh. Not really my style."
And did I mention not useful? For example, the old catalogs used to have big two page spreads with, say, a million dining tables arranged neatly in a grid with dimensions and prices. Super useful. I didn't really see any of that. I'm looking at the online catalog so maybe the paper catalog is better?
And there were a handful of kitchen pics, but basically no information about the new kitchen cabinet line. Madness! Not even a teaser page with a,"Check out our Kitchen Catalog for more!"

You sound like my husband. He has complained the last two years about not being able to find enough items easily ( or at all). I told him that it wasn't the Sears catalog. ; p
I dont mind the format. If I really want something specific, rather than just perusing the catalog for fun, I look online. I enjoyed the catalog and found some small stuff that I hadn't seen before but need, but I haven't had time to look through it too carefully.
Just started flipping through the digital version. I do like that they actually give you the price of what is pictured for the kitchens vs their previous approximation price for a 10x10 kitchen.
I apparently don't get one, I thought I was signed up. Let me go look at this puppy.
ETA:
Okay.. I have always liked the catalog in bits and pieces because my style isn't straight IKEA. So I think I am okay with not having as many inspirational set ups.
I've found a handful of things I want to buy though!

I haven't looked at mine yet, but a quick flip of the pages seemed awfully ... Dark. And yes, I do miss the old, "here's a bunch of table inspirations, now here's a couple pages with all the tables and their sizes and prices"
Ikea gives you options of digital or paper catalogs....or both.
It's a tactile thing for me. I like to touch/hold/feel books, magazines, catalogs, and think they still have a place in my life. I do rely on my computer more, but really enjoy thumbing through a magazine or catalog.
I think I've confessed on H&G before that I own every Ikea Catalog since 2002 (except for two that seem to have gone missing in a move.) My precioussssssss.

I just thumbed through the online version and found three pretty inspirational pics. I like their blog for more inspiration, but the catalog helps me dream for actual use in my house, which is not fully ikea or really congruent in decorations.
From left to right:
This black and white tiny kitchen is so simple, it's inviting. I wouldn't have thought to put bead board cabinets with those other fixtures.
The living room is fun and functional. I like when they use their furniture for a fun arrangement and function over the typical way. The sectional here (and even double rugs, but Ikea does that a lot) made me pause and then I really liked it.
A simple kids room in color, but not in things. My kids love things - trinkets toys, little pieces of paper, etc. So I like that the storage here is also full of stuff, but since everything is monotone wood, it doesn't feel so cluttered.
Top: Rooftop garden with open shelves - so darling. I wish my patio was this inviting and now I think I might consider adding outdoor shelves and putting all my plants out during the spring-summer-fall.
Bottom left - this bathroom is not exactly my style, but I think they did great at incorporating some traditional, classic lines like the tile and the framed mirror cabinet with the fluted sink back, but still kept the almost floating vanity look and the modern toilet. I think it's a great transitional room and it has color too. Oh and I am not trying to figure out where to use those sconces.
Bottom right - I want to hang out in this tiny, cute room with this fun people. I'm not sure why exactly, but they made a small room seem so homey.

I still get 1 thought everytime I get this catalog....cheap. I don't mind buying small things from there, cute vases, pictures/frames, but when it comes to furniture, the stuff is cheap. I've owned their stuff for 10 years now and some of it is just falling apart...once we get settled in the house, we will be buying all new real furniture!

No tomatoes but I have some things from IKEA that are over 15 years old and still going strong. And I have some "real" furniture that hasn't held up as well as I would have assumed/liked.
It is all about personal taste.
Personally, I like to mix high and low/traditional and modern stuff together. And IKEA is a great place to get stuff to do that.

Eh, some of it is cheap, but it's mostly the small things that are the cheapest. I'm jealous of the price of frames, baby stuff, kids toys, and the kitchen gadgets - we don't have an Ikea close, so we don't usually get those.
The kitchens I have seen from Ikea are lasting awhile and pretty well made, but I only know of two IRL and the oldest is about 8 years old. I hope the vanities are the same b/c we have one now. We have a similar-priced ($300) vanity from Lowes and it's the same particle board/wood combo of the Ikea one, so it doesn't seem much different. I've never had a couch or lots of furniture from them, but we also can't afford much more than $1000 for a couch or $400 for a bed frame so that is probably why I don't have a good idea of comparison if it's poorly made compared to the other inexpensive Costco or mass/big-box Store or second-hand/antique-store stuff we own.
I just took a look, and I love it. There were lots of vignettes that gave ideas of how to use/arrange pieces. There were lots of breakout sections showing individuals pieces with dimensions--no, not every piece, but many. A catalog can only show so much, and, really, the point is to highlight new items and ideas. IMO, they did not fail.
I have a new home to remodel and decorate... I was not as impressed but found some things I liked. DD1 likes a bed from there, and the rest is mainly organizational.

While we're talking...can I just say that I find IKEA's website INFURIATING? OMG, you have all the money in the world, hire some damn web people! First of all, having to indicate your country EVERY TIME you visit the site. Ever heard of a cookie? Plus, the search is awful. You can search for the EXACT name of something and not find it. Plus the inability to search for, like, frames by sizes. AAAARGGGH!!
I think I have to make a trip sooner than planned. The Daybed I want for the office/spare room isn't in the new catalog. So far it's the only one DH and I can agree on for that room.
