I still don't are for her name and just like I thought no one spells jt right!!! I picked the spelling hailey bc it is the most popular on the ssa. Haley is how everyone spells it though. Will I make her life easier if I change the spelling legally to haley? It's a pretty straight forward process and I would rather do it now Or never.
I have a pretty basic name and some people still misspell and mispronounce it. Don't worry about it.
FWIW, if someone said that name I'd spell it "Hailey" (rhymes with Bailey). The "Haley" spelling makes me want to pronounce it "Hal-e" (rhymes with Sally).
I wouldn't change it. I've seen a variety of spellings. I've also had a few Hallies in class.
With Hailey/Haley, etc., you also have the variation of one l or two, so she will likely be spelling it her whole life anyway. Hopefully, you have an easy last name. I have to spell my last name because it's not said like it's spelled; thank goodness my first name is easy.
Also, what might be the traditional spelling where she is now might not be the traditional spelling where she is when she is an adult. I grew up in a different part of the country. Where I grew up, my name has one spelling and pronounciation. When I moved cross country, everyone here in New England either spells my name wrong or pronounces it differently.
Halley's Comet, no? But that comes from a last name so I don't think it bears on the spelling of the first name.
If I were going to spell the first name, I would shoot for Hailey first. Don't change it! That's a nice spelling!
LOL you are right.
But is it pronounced the same way?!
I don't pronounce it the same way (I pronounce Halley so it rhymes with alley and Hailey so it rhymes with Bailey) but I could totally be pronouncing Halley wrong. I have no particular knowledge, I just say it how I see it.
I think a lot of people think it is "Hailey's" comet, though, so even if Halley and Hailey are pronounced the same way, I'd imagine a lot of people get it right for the wrong reason!

All of my knowledge of this comet is from a phish song.....
The law is that whatever you change it to, people will still spell it wrong. So the day you change it to Haley is the day everyone will default to spelling it Hailey.
I was just coming in to say this same thing. You can't win. Just leave it.

My son's name is a traditional Indian name, but sounds just like an American/European one. I know he'll have to spell it, but that's okay. At least I didn't saddle him with my traditional Indian last name!
