Picked O up from daycare. There's a sign and message in the log in system saying a case of lice has been found and to take everything home.
Talk to O's afternoon teacher, find out there's a case in her classroom and a ton of the after school kids have it. They do a weekly lice check every Tuesday so it just got found out this morning.

My mother in law would braid my sister in laws hair every morning in elementary school to avoid lice transmission. Evidently it makes it really hard for lice if hair is braided on their head and tight.
You could also have her wear a shower cap. honestly, I think it's a valid idea. Haha.
I use Suave coconut shampoo mixed with tea tree oil and then spray their heads in hair spray and gel. I guess lice like clean hair, so I make their heads as "dirty" as I can. Good luck!
Keep her hair up and ditto those suggesting tea tree oil spray/shampoo.
Whenever there's an outbreak at our school I always take all the kids' stuff (backpacks, coats, hats, etc.) and throw them in the dryer on high for at least 30 minutes when they get home each day.
Right there with you. I dropped DD1 off at summer camp yesterday and they have a sign at check-in that there's a case (which I hope means just a single one) of lice.
I'm crossing my fingers that because there are so many kids and three separate age groups that her chances of picking it up are low, but this thread has some good ideas on proactive stuff and I think I'm going to see what I can get in terms of tea tree oil/shampoo today. We have less than two weeks until school starts and lice would be a really crappy way to end the summer/start the school year.

I second the tea tree oil. We add a few drops to my son's shampoo every day. He has escaped two lice outbreaks at school so far unscathed. *knock on wood*
I got the bottle of Amazon. One bottle lasts a few months
I'm sorry, I got one of those notices a few months ago and I swear the moment I read it, my scalp felt itchy. We managed to avoid any lice though. All extra changes of clothing had to be bagged up in their cubbies and they brought in a lice expert who would go through the kid's hair.
One caution about the keep hair dirty lots of hairspray advice- my kid got sent home for having larva. Freaked out. Nope. Just white hair spray build up.
