FWIW, I love my share of catchy pop songs with shitty lyrics but the songs discussed in this thread got annoying after the first two times I heard them.
Add that obnoxious Shut Up and Dance in there too. I want them to change the name to just "Shut Up" and just...shut up.
I mean I even listen to shitty country music and none of it sounds like that.
THANK YOU! I felt like I was going crazy in here!
Maybe it's like what people expect from country when they don't ever listen to it? lol, IDK. But I've never heard anything like it on country radio. It sounds like every other one hit wonder pop song that drives me bananas.

My kids looooooooooooooove that song. They have questionable taste, though.
And Grammer may be pop, but the Eli Young Band is definitely not.
Also, it was initially released to country stations, not pop stations.
At the very, VERY least, it leans country.
I've never heard the Eli Young remix version (sidenote of wtf to doing that but everyone is crazy in country these days it seems when it comes to collabs and remixes) but if the original song was originally released to country radio, did it ever get air time? I never once heard it and it seriously sounds nothing like anything on country radio - it sounds like a spoof version of what people think a country song might be if they have never listened to country in their life, just have some stereotype idea of it.
It sounds like country radio didn't think it was country, though, if it was originally released there. Of course there is an argument over whether country radio should determine what is country and what gets the most play, but I don't think this is the type of song the critics of country radio have in mind, lol.

I had to Youtube Honey, I'm Good last night as I'd never heard it. I agree with the Cotton-Eyed Joe comparison. I listen to a lot of shitty pop music, but country doesn't get a lot of play here, and I don't seek it out.
