Not a bigot, but if my 17 year old, on daily medication, with need of a service dog, left home with no money, and no phone, I would not have waited 6 days to contact police/ask the public for help.
Maybe she's done this before, but has always came back?
I still wouldn't give it more than 24.
this is going to come back and bite me in the ass in 10 or so years, right? And since we will all still be there, someone will remind me of these posts. Because y'all don't forget shit.

I pray it doesn't. But if it does, we will remind you. And we locals will show up and start hunting with you. And I bet there'd be a drive-in posse too. But let's hope we never have to revisit this idea ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever again because I started tearing up thinking about it.

Given who this is I would suspect they had professionals looking just not the police, in some ways a hired professional is better able to deal with this then the cops.

I doubt the police would have done anything for a person that old who took off wilingly even if they did reach out sooner.
I hope she is found safe and sound.
Do they have this choice? I always assumed there were policies or something about a missing minor - no?
Technically for 'missing' minors after 24 hrs but often run aways are not followed up on very closely. In this case I would hope the police would be on top of it given her metal illness and medical needs.

Yeah when my brother was 14 and decided to go missing for 4 days, the cops weren't too interested in looking for him. They told my parents that since he was over 12 years old that he was probably just a runaway and would come back on his own if he wanted to. The most help we got was the Polly Klaas Foundation offered to make flyers. The rest of it was my family playing the detective and contacting his friends who had seen him get into a sedan with Oregon plates. We acted on one of the tips and actually found him walking down town with some random older guy.
Sadly, I think the mental illness piece makes it leads likely the cops will put effort into looking for her. Granted, my view is colored by the experiences I've had and the kids I've worked with in the foster care system.
Maybe she ran away to be with her biological mother. Wasn't there something in the news fairly recently where the birth mother claimed Rosie 'stole' her daughter from her?

After having a sister with drug issues in her early teen years, a coworker who's older teen just overdosed, and a friend with a bipolar daughter, I don't feel I can judge anymore. So many times you know the local PD and are checking in during these crisis times without formal reports processed. I won't remind you of this if you ever come to this, which I hope you don't, you will only deserve support.
Here's my issue--no cell, no money, when she likely has relatively easy access to both? That doesn't scream "runaway" to me. And there are kids missing out there whose parents would love to get 1/1000 of the publicity that someone like Rosie has access to. I can see waiting 24 hours. But 6 days is a long fucking time to not use the very public resources you have access to, and that most of us would kill for if in her shoes. Yeah, that makes me judgy. But six days, especially in the case of mental illness, can be an eternity.
