Thoughts and prayers for my state please

To make this H&F related, I had to skip my run this morning because there is no way I would have been able to breath. Our air quality is soooo poor right now due to wildfires all around.

I live in WA, and central WA is basically on fire with several fires also near my city in eastern WA. 3 firemen died tonight and 4 others were burned in one of them. It's windy and very very hot and dry .


Unfortunately that's smoke in the sky, not overcast clouds bringing rain.



Anyhow, I hope the smoke clears soon so I can run outside. But, more importantly, I hope and pray that the weather breaks and they can get these fires under control. All the thoughts and prayers you can muster for the firefighters, volunteers, and towns and families hit hard would be much appreciated!

This is horrible. My state and area is no stranger to wildfires and I know how crazy and dangerous it can get. I had no clue it was so bad in WA right now. Hoping it gets under control soon in any way possible and no one else is injured or dies. So so sad.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. We've had a few in Oregon, too. For what it's worth, it's very cloudy in Portland today, so maybe some of that is clouds. It probably isn't helping the air quality to trap the smoke under the clouds though. I hope that PNW will get some rain soon.

joenali I think the winds shifted a bit and sent it your way yesterday. It cooled down considerably on Friday, which meant bad winds, and this was Spokane on Friday and a clear day



It was beyond awful. Visibility was horrible (got even worse than pictured) and air quality was obviously well into the unhealthy range for all people. I had a hard time not complaining because I know is so much worse other places but ugh. Smelled awful in my house, couldn't go outside, and my whole hospital smelled awful. By the end of my shift my eyes and throat were burning so bad! Come Saturday morning, things were much clearer, but I'm smelling it again as the night goes on.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers! They are much needed!

How are things today? one of the guys from my gym is a fire captain and he headed up to fight the fire up north. i heard that other countries are sending help as well.

carilyn- I have a few pictures like that from where I live and I'm almost 3 hrs north of the fire.

itsme It's been better smoke-wise, although still pretty hazy. My gage for what's bad has definitely changed since Friday! I guess there are crews from Australia and New Zealand here helping. We're in a state of emergency, so the national gaurd has been deployed and there are planes that can dump over 20,000 gallons of water that have been sent. They're setting up a station so to speak at Fairchild AFB just outside of Spokane. There are crews from several states here as well. The state is also allowing civilian volunteers to train and help with the cause.

I read today that the Okanogan Complex Fire (a few hrs from me) is the largest wild fire in state history ?.

It's been awesome to see the communities pull together, feed fire fighters, house evacuees, house evacuated animals etc. The hospital I work at got 17patients last night from an outlying hospital that got evacuated.
