1. What race are you training for? Half Marathon at the end of october
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? I live in the southwest so summer sin't really ending yet for us.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Not yet but i just got back to my regular running and am upping my milage so i am sure it will come. I just eat all the thing taht is how i handle it.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? I indulge when i want if i want regardless
This is the last full week of summer (for those of us who consider Sept 1 to be fall). How is going?
1. What race are you training for? MCM 10/25
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? I'm ambivalent. It was a really mild summer, so nothing will really change until it gets much cooler.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Yes, but it isn't too bad. I typically have brunch right after a workout and try to eat some protein heavy foods.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Not any more than normal. I have pretty serious cookie habit.
1. What race are you training for? Marine Corps Marathon
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? A little sad honestly. I love the simplicity of dressing in the summer. Just shorts and a tank. I love the long days and playing in our backyard with the kids in the evenings.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it?Every now and then, I eat anything I can find. Usually it's hits me all of the sudden.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Trying not to go too crazy this marathon cycle. I get plenty of "unplanned treats." I'm always going to something like yesterday was a birthday party so I eat whatever I want there. I don't really keep treats in the house on the regular since I get treats other places. If that makes any sens.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? I'm still congesting in the morning from this cold, but I did manage to get all of my runs in except for one on Monday. My 12-miler yesterday was actually pretty good.

1. What race are you training for? Baystate Marathon (10/18)
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? I'm so sad about summer ending. I love summer and after this winter I was really looking forward to it and I swear summer has flown by and the weather hasn't been great when I could enjoy it.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Not too much thankfully. I just try and eat more carbs and protein when it does hit and try to make smart decisions and not let myself eat all the candy that I can find.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Not really, I don't keep a lot in the house. I have been eating more ice cream lately but try and keep it in check.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? Had an awesome 15 mile run with scm1011 on Saturday, fast average pace on a long run I think all training cycle. Then went into a 5k on Sunday and was hoping to pull of somewhere in the 27 min range, 25:09! Not a PR but 30 seconds off and all my other 5k's this summer have been barely sub 28. I thought my speed disappeared but it seems to just be hidden under humidity and heat.
1. What race are you training for? Napa Valley Marathon March 6, 2016
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? Happy. Is that sacrilege? I really miss my routine, and I need to get back into my training rhythm.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Right now, no. But when I do I handle it by eating basically everything. Seriously though, this is a weakness of mine. I default to junky sorts of snacks. I need to prep more healthy things to eat when the runger hits. I was thinking of looking on the runningonveggies blog, she always posts really good looking stuff on instagram - maybe i should make some of those ahead of time.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Second breakfast.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? Background: Ive been running SUPER slow all summer. I decided that clearly I'm not good at gauging effort by feel, and I want to try hard not to wind up injured again. So I decided that this summer, when running wasn't so primary, that I'd focus on running by heartrate and try to keep my heartrate within the 145-150 range. I still find it kind of hard, but it's been working and my mileage is back up to 20-25 and my legs don't feel beat up at all. When I started 2 months ago, my pace was ridiculous - like 12 minute miles and it was kind of embarrassing. But I went on faith that I would get faster at that heart rate if I just continued to train there. I thought maybe I could get down below 10 min miles before marathon training begins so I could maintain the pace I like to shoot for in my long runs at that low heartrate and give myself a bigger chance of avoiding a repeat injury. Yesterday I had my fastest pace yet! I averaged 10:21/mile on my run, but I had some miles in there at 10:08. I'm so excited! I know it sounds silly to be excited about a pace like that, but I texted H and was grinning ear to ear! I'm almost there!!
I have two more months before marathon training begins. I am going to focus on maintaining at least 4 runs a week, with a total of 20-25 miles per week, with 90% of the miles being at a 145-150 heart rate, and hopefully I can get down below 10min miles!
Does anyone else train by heart rate? If you do, how do you figure out what your race effort should be? Is there a race-effort heart rate?
This is the last full week of summer (for those of us who consider Sept 1 to be fall). How is going? DS is still sick so my sleep is low and training is high right now, so I am not the most pleasant person.
1. What race are you training for? 7 Bridges Marathon (Chatt, TN) on 10/19
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? Both. I love summer, but it can be overwhelming with the kiddos and trying to work p/t. DS starts school next week and he will be going all 5 days (half days). It's going to be weird not having him around. I'll probably cry and wish it was still summer. Maybe I'll just run more.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Yes. I always get it the day after my long runs. I do not do well at "handling" it either. It's a real problem.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Ha. I did just buy Nutella. I guess my go to is a bagel sandwich with a big processed bagel. Yum.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? First 20 miler in the books for the this training cycle. I did it on Sunday and 13 of them were during my half marathon, so I got some good tempo miles in. It was fun and I felt pretty good.
This is the last full week of summer (for those of us who consider Sept 1 to be fall). How is going?
1. What race are you training for? Freedom's Run 10/10
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? Both. I'm excited to get a little more freedom on the mornings L goes to preschool, but I will miss my early morning Summer runs, the pool, and the laid back schedule. I'm looking forward to XC season, fall races, and a few plans DH and I have.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Yeah. I'm eating a bit too much.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? I am usually training for something so I splurge year round. Sweet treats and beer are my downfall.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? Not really. Good mileage, a little light on speedwork w/ DH being OOT.

1. What race are you training for? Chicago (10/11)
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? SO HAPPY. I'm not a summer person when not training, but this has been brutal.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Yes. I'm just going with it. I am keeping it healthy (almonds, cheese sticks, veggies, fruit) and not giving into temptations of chips and cookies, but I still have my one nightly vice - ice cream
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Ice cream. I try and limit it to a small fudgecicle most nights, but at least twice a week (usually after my 8 miler and long run day) I get a turtle sundae from Freddy's.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? Long run was 18 miles. Completed 13.1 before my husband came and picked me up because it was lightening. I was soaking wet and thought "well, I already did a half marathon, that's good enough". But I didn't. I got home, and jumped on the treadmill and finished the last 5, soaking wet shoes and all.

1. What race are you training for? MCM and Richmond marathon
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? I'm so sad! I prefer fall weather for running, but I'm going to miss the extra hours of daylight and warm weather for the pool.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Yes, I have major runger. I've been eating whatever I can get my hands on. I don't recommend following my lead.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? In addition to eating whatever I can get my hands on when I'm in runger mode, I've been having weekly pizza nights, and I've been getting cupcakes after every long run.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? The weather has finally gotten a little cooler in the morning!
1. What race are you training for? Paris Marathon, April 2016
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending?
Sad, it's never that hot here and it's too short.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Yes! The day after a run.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella?
I buy more fitness stuff, I don't seem to reward myself with food.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week?
Uh, only my gorgeous 13 miler in Switzerland that I have AW'd about 20 times already Also, I don't ever seem to need water or fuel on my halfs now, even in full sun. I'm happy about that.
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? Sad. I hate winter a lot. And I really only had a couple weeks of really awful heat and humidity for running season.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? I wasn't till last week. I eat all the food. I'm going to have to figure something out cause this could get out of hand quickly.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? I don't deny myself anything ever really. This is probably why I'm slow.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? I did a half this past weekend (off schedule - I was supposed to run 16). Was very hilly. My goal was to get my SIL to a certain finish time. We hit it. I'm proud of her.
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? sad! I love the long summer days, when it is still daylight when you leave work. I like cooler weather, but not the shorter days.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? usually the day afterwards - i try to eat well, but sometimes we go by boat to eat the night of a long run or lunch the day after & I get something tasty.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? ice cream. major weakness
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? i feel like my piriformis is starting to act up again :/ I am calling my PT tomorrow to see if i can get on their schedule this week.
1. What race are you training for? Houston marathon is my big goal race. Also planning on a November half, and maybe a half on Dec 13 for my 30th birthday.
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? There are no words for my happiness at summer ending. Right now I feel like I'd be thrilled if it were never summer again.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Kind of. I handle it by eating everything. I probably need a better coping mechanism.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Not yet, but once my long runs get up in the teens I let myself have a real Coke (preferably the Mexican variety with real sugar) once a week after those runs. And it is glorious.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? I had a good run on Saturday. I had only planned on going 8 and I was in a terrible mood beforehand. I'm reminded how important exercise is for my sanity even though it's sometimes hard to find time. It also makes it easier to focus when I need to.
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? THRILLED for running. I hate that six months of the year I have to get up in the dark to run to beat the heat.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Always. By stuffing my face.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? The one thing that I do differently is get frappucinos with whip when the urge strikes.
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? Hm...not really. I managed a decent week, even with that tight back, so I'm glad for that. Vent: I'm struggling with workouts the next few weeks and getting up early. Like, Wednesday's workout as is would mean a *start* time of 4:45 and Thursday's a start time of 5:00. I'm just not able to do that consistently every day and then go to school. I need it to cool down, which isn't going to happen at *least* for two weeks. So so frustrating.

1. What race are you training for? Wineglass 10/4
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? mixed feelings. I hate running when it's too hot and I love fall, but I also like enjoying being able to be outdoors a lot.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Usually the day of a long run, I'm starving the whole day. I usually eat a big dinner that night
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? I have been drinking more beer and indulging in more sweets, but trying to cut back on that a bit
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? I had an annoying blister but was able to keep it at bay with bandaids and tape. Also, I had a 17 mile run which was my longest yet. It wasn't fast or pretty, but I did it
1. MCM 10/25 2. If my paces drop I'll be happy about summer ending! 3. Oh. My. God. Runger has been bad. Sunday I ate half a jar of peanut butter. I just kept taking spoonfuls 4. I have a horrible sweet tooth, I'm always indulging in something. Oh and taking naps on long run days instead of cleaning the house 5. 20 miler done!

1. What race are you training for? Twin Cities 10/4
2. Are you happy or sad about summer ending? Sad. Excited for fall, but dread winter with every fiber of my being.
3. Are you experiencing runger? How do you handle it? Yes. Eat all the things.
4. Are there any special treats you let yourself indulge in during training? Like eating half a pizza or spoonfulls of nutella? Pizza pizza!
5. Any AWs or vents from last week? I stupidly added hills and track to my long run. All my midweek runs have been on the treadmill or with the jogging stroller, and so I never get the chance to do any other training, so I ran my long run to include hill repeats and some laps around the track. Felt great at the time...now my knees and hips won't forgive me. I'll definitely be running this marathon for the fun of it and just to finish..
