Sorry this got very long Today was our appt for the lip ties that I scheduled months ago with the dr who has the laser. I made an appointment for both boys because Luke has some decay and a gap and Alex has a severe lip tie (even though the Peds and lc says it was fine). I figured we might as well have Luke's checked even though it looked much more minor
Luke - has lip tie, had tongue tie but it's gotten stretchier over the 3 years... Not surprised at all he couldn't nurse. Decided to laser his because of the tooth decay he says the lip tie is to blame. Leave his tongue tie because it's stretched out now. Because of his age they gave him a Valium like med and he acted drunk- this kid is going to be hilarious in college- then a topical numbing then took him for the laser- 10second procedure literally back in a minute. Didn't cry at all. We planned to keep him home but he missed his friends from being on our trip. We can give him Advil but he says nuffin hurts. Crazy how it didn't phase him.
Alex- definitely has tight lip tie and pretty severe tongue tie. The dr asked if I was interested in getting him back on the breast but I'm not and am dried up now. dr said that at this point a revision won't change anything- he's gaining fine, etc. He won't do it early in case of teeth or speech problems bc many people it doesn't affect If his speech struggles or his teeth decay then bring him in immediately when he's a toddler. Since he's an ENT I asked about his hearing if he could recommend a specialist- he goes and gets the audiologist right there. She comes back with 2 tests one that tests pressure and one that tests frequencies. He passed the pressure one in both ears The frequency one (oae) you need a score of 3/6 to pass. His one ear just barely got the 3. His other got a 2. They said since it wasn't a soundproof room it could've added a margin of error. I will be asking to have a followup test for sure but the good news is he can hear. There might be a chance that he had hearing loss but at least his ears biologically work.
Luke sounds like such a character glad you got some answers. Crazy how many lip/tongue ties there are. I wonder if it is all the folic acid supplements.

Interesting but not me because of my Hyperemesis I barely took vitamins with either kid
It sounds like a really productive visit and that's really great about A's tests! The OAE is what Luke failed many times because of other noise and the earpieces were always a bad fit. They said fluid can also make you fail even if your ears work I think? It's so fussy. I'm so glad you got some answers and didn't have to wait. I hope everything else checks out!
Hope you can get some definitive answers about Alex's hearing soon. What are the next steps for him?
His ped well check is tomorrow so next steps are I'll ask her for a hearing evaluation referral still from the university specialists but I don't feel I need to rush as much as the day before
That sounds like you got into an awesome office and one that listens well and to concerns. Glad Luke was unphased!
Can I be noisy and ask which teeth has decay? Colin has some, too, and I always wondered about the lip/tounge tie? The dentist was very jerky about the decay but combined with his medication, it isn't uncommon. When I mentioned the lip/tongue tie I got a major side eye.

The very top of his 2 front teeth. Our dentist noticed it but it's not too awful yet a little grey tint. The dr explained it well that everytime his mouth closes a pocket hangs over the top of the teeth. He assured us no amount of flossing or brushing would stop that food/saliva from sitting on the teeth

Have you seen more evidence that Luke can hear now? I feel like ok he passed (barely) a screener but shows no evidence of hearing. My h had him in the ergo yesterday and was dropping glass bottles into the recycle bin and he didn't even flinch
