Let me know if you have any questions. Louie had both a severe tongue tie and hearing loss.
I do have questions but don't know what they are!! What did you do for his hearing loss? How was it found?
We found out when we got him qualified for Early intervention for speech. They said to check his hearing. I was like no way he has hearing loss, because he would turn his head when we called his name. When we went to the ENT he had 40 percent hearing loss. So basically he was hearing us like he was underwater, for who knows how long. He was getting chronic ear infections. Thats why i get frustrated every time he gets sick, because it usually leads to an ear infection. Even with tubes, which makes it hard to hear for him. So a minor cold to someone else, really isnt for us.
He also failed his hearing test in the hospital though. Sooo he has always had hearing issues.
They did the tubes and his tongue clipping at the same time at age 2. Nobody would touch his tongue before that. Thats why with Zoey, i pushed for it now.
It sounds like a really productive visit and that's really great about A's tests! The OAE is what Luke failed many times because of other noise and the earpieces were always a bad fit. They said fluid can also make you fail even if your ears work I think? It's so fussy. I'm so glad you got some answers and didn't have to wait. I hope everything else checks out!
Have you seen more evidence that Luke can hear now? I feel like ok he passed (barely) a screener but shows no evidence of hearing. My h had him in the ergo yesterday and was dropping glass bottles into the recycle bin and he didn't even flinch
Yes I can tell he can hear now based on things he does but when he was little he hardly startled. Did they check for fluid buildup in A's ears? That's the only thing I could think of because his ears could still present as functional. Could it be because he's got an older brother so he's more used to sound? I know it's so stressful, I cried a lot during the waiting period. I hated waiting through the whole screening and EI process, it was really hard. I'm here for you!

Thanks I'll let you know. We go to the pedi today for his 4m

Do they have strategies for him now that he's older? Will he need hearing aids?

Nope, as of our last appointment he has 100 percent hearing!!! But we go frequently to check.
That sounds like you got into an awesome office and one that listens well and to concerns. Glad Luke was unphased!
Can I be noisy and ask which teeth has decay? Colin has some, too, and I always wondered about the lip/tounge tie? The dentist was very jerky about the decay but combined with his medication, it isn't uncommon. When I mentioned the lip/tongue tie I got a major side eye.
The very top of his 2 front teeth. Our dentist noticed it but it's not too awful yet a little grey tint. The dr explained it well that everytime his mouth closes a pocket hangs over the top of the teeth. He assured us no amount of flossing or brushing would stop that food/saliva from sitting on the teeth
Okay, that is EXACTLY the teeth that Colin has decay on. I could cry. I have been so humiliated since the dentist and bringing all of this up that I haven't been back. I don't know if he has a lip tie but I always thought he did? When I mentioned it to the pedi I was told I needed to stop nursing him because it is too sugary (for realz). He was always an excellent nurser so I never pursued it. We have always brushed and flossed as he has allowed.
I'm glad you are going farther with this. We were at Henry's follow up for his ties and an 8 year old boy just got his done. They told me about tooth decay and speech issues happening often with ties. I hope you can figure out his hearing issue.
