Hi All! I've been under a lot of stress lately and thus been having random heart palpitations. I have an appointment with my doctor to get checked out but in researching heart palpitations, many times they are attributed to stress. Yoga is recommended as a stress reliever. I figured it couldn't hurt to practice yoga, so maybe I should try it.
Is there any at-home DVD yoga videos that you could recommend? I'm looking to do yoga mainly as a stress relief. Though, toning wouldn't hurt either.
Attending a studio class is just not doable for me at the moment. I'm hoping to be able to do this at home for the time being until life settles a bit and I can find time and funds to go to a proper yoga class.
Any thing you could recommend would be greatly appreciated.
I know you mentioned that a studio isn't a long-term solution, but if you could attend a class or two the instructor could give you some good tips on form.
For relaxation, don't skip 5 minutes of still silence at the end of your routine. I'm not sure if a lot of vidoes include this, but it is a part of every yoga class I have attended.

I like Rodney Yee, Bryan Kest, and Baron Baptiste . If you're doing it mainly for relaxation I would search for a gentle yoga or candlelight yoga. I agree with others not to skip the last 5 minutes -- that's the best part!
Something to keep in mind - I get heart palps due to irregular beat issues. If I hold my breath during yoga, they flare up like mad. Don't forget to breathe!!!
Maybe even googling some restorative poses would be good to start. That way you can focus on deep breathing and really grounding your body. Hope it helps

Thank you for all your recommendations and suggestions. Tomorrow I'll start googling it all.
I talked to H tonight about it and confessed my palpitation situation and he was very much on board with me taking a few studio classes to get a feel for it all. I'm thrilled! I'm hopeful this all helps me calm down.
Gaiam has some wonderful productions. Barbara Benagh has "Yoga for Stress Relief" with a wide range of both restorative practices along with some more vigorous routines (especially for morning); slow moving, but very appreciated some days. I really enjoy Rodney Yee's AM Yoga (5 routines, 20min each). Jason Crandell also has "Yoga for Well Being" that I enjoy as well. Total Yoga is also great for beginners, where they have Earth, Water and Fire videos, building the routine as you get stronger and more familiar with the poses and breath/posture relation. Once you get more familiar with poses and a vinyasa flow, and you are looking for something more vigorous then definitely look into Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste or Bryan Kest. Enjoy the classes!
