H's first birthday is Saturday. We decided months ago that we would forgo a party in favor of a family trip to celebrate. I had planned a weekend away, and then we decided to stick closer to home and just do an overnight and some fun activities for the kids (less time in the car means more fun for everyone!) Then DH found out he's probably have to work this weekend, so we cancelled the overnight in favor of a day trip. Now even that is questionable.
I'm panicking because I have nothing else planned. No cake, no decorations, no cute outfit, no nothing. We have a few presents to open, but that's it. I know we can reschedule the trip and everything, but I'm so sad! It's my baby's first birthday and I've got two days to get something put together. I don't want his special day to get shoved to the side-- even if he doesn't remember it, I will!

I'm sorry. I totally understand.
For Ari's first bday we did a small dinner the weekend before and the weekend after with our families. On his actual bday we went to the zoo and he slept through the entire thing, lol.
Anything you will be special because he loves you and just likes being with his family.
Huge hugs. Grab some cupcakes and a big 1 candle, and call it a day. I did see someone give their 3 year old a donut with a 3 candle in the middle on FB this week. I thought that was pretty cute.
Aww hugs honey. Can you do like a campout in your living room? A is very into blanket forts right now. Make a fort lay down sleeping bags and watch movies? Smores maybe?
I'm sorry. My husband has to work all weekend too and Amelia's bday is Sunday we wanted to do a family zoo day but his schedule is jammed packed for next two weeks so I just decided to do something without him I'm sure you will find some way to make it special
Thanks ladies... I feel better. imimahoney, you are right... H's favorite thing is just being with us, so he's set :-)
DH thinks he might have one clear day, so we might still do our day trip. Hank really loves hamburgers and beans right now, so I think we'll do a cookout no matter what and then instead of cake maybe do a strawberry/blueberry/peach shortcake with whipped cream. They are his favorite three fruits and the cake and whipped cream will make it a perfect stand-in for a smash cake.
That sounds like a perfect plan! We do something like that - favorite meal & dessert on the actual birthday, and it's a nice low key way to celebrate without the stress of trying to make it perfect for a party. ((Hugs))
