Yes, it happens frequently. So, 493K is their bottom line? How is that priced compared to comps? It is a good price or would you be overpaying? Don't get caught up in who came up or down and how much. Just focus on what is the right price for the property. If you want the house and you are not overpaying at 493K, then do it.

To be fair, you're both really willing to walk away from a deal over 2k or else you wouldn't have countered again.
But to answer your question, yes it's common and could be for so many reasons. Maybe the home is already fairly priced or like pp said they only want to sell if they can get all their equity out of the home. Keep in mind that you're both using REAs so it's hard to know if the dynamic there is affecting the deal, too.
As PP said - if you are willing to walk away now, you're also willing to walk away over 2K.
But home buying is such a mind fuck. I found that money lost all meaning during the process - when you're paying 100's of thousands of dollars and quibbling over 700 dollars after an inspection - it's just bizarre. Not necessarily unreasonable - but bizarre all the same.
Everyone else has given great advice on reflecting on the worth (personally and objectively) of the home to you. Thats what got us to accept and having looked at all the homes on sale in the market prior and since, I know we got a fair deal, despite the stress during negotiating.

Thank you. I am trying not to get too excited until we go through inspection and close.
MM Persona: We put in an offer and got a positive response but we'll see how things go. We're concerned about the appraisal and the inspection and the tax implications.. Actual Real Life Response: HOLY FUCK WE JUST BOUGHT A FUCKING HOUSE!!!!
