I'm training for my second half marathon. Race is 10/4. I'm up to the point of 12/13 mile long runs. I'm running 8 miles for my last "Long run" on 9/26. In between now and then I was planning on 12, 8, 13, 13. However, our weekends have been jam packed and I have to get the runs done super early in the day. Not a problem until recently. I was getting up at 5-5:30 on Saturdays and getting them done. Then a bear walked right in front of me last week and I'm a little to freaked to head out before it's pretty light out.
So my question is this, is it a bad idea to run part of my long run on the treadmill and the rest on the road? One immediately following the other. Last Saturday I did this, 4 on the treadmill, then 8 on the road. 12 total and I only stopped to hop off the treadmill, go pee and head out.
It worked pretty well I just don't know if it's going to mess up my training to do it that way if I need to for the next couple of weeks.
Sure. I break up my runs like this sometimes. Today I will be running with the stroller for a few miles, going on the gym treadmill, then running back home. In the winter months I will run on the treadmill until it's light out, then finish on the road. Ice + dark is no bueno.
Thanks Ladies! I figure, it's better than not getting the miles in at all. Hopefully I can squeeze in 1 or 2 long runs all on the road before the end. I just didn't want to muck everything up!
Yep, you should be fine. Make sure to have a head lamp and reflective gear if you do decide to run in the dark.
Just curious, where were you running at? the road or a trail?
I have a headlight and glow in the dark armbands but now I'm afraid to even try it. I was running on the road in my neighborhood. It's pretty rural, wooded. But the area I am in is a grouping of 3 or 4 little streets and he walked right out of the treeline between two houses, across the street and behind the other house.

Crazy! I would have been terrified. I always get creeped out by foxes staring out at me in the dark. But a bear in the dark is scary.
