I did a very small amount of baby wearing with C when he was little, but haven't used my Boba 3G probably since C started walking around a year. I did also buy a K'tan before he was born, but he was such a big baby that I found it hard to figure out how to wear him when he was newborn and ended up just holding him or using the carseat until I could wear him in the Boba.
Anyway, with baby #2 on the way, I'm hoping that (s)he will be interested in being worn because it will make my life easier with chasing a toddler at the same time. I'm thinking I might want to get a ring sling or another kind of soft wrap to use in the beginning, until something like my Boba or a Tula are safe/recommended.
Any recommendations for something like this? I'm not looking for any wrap conversions or anything expensive. Just something basic and comfortable, and a bonus if it can be pretty. I don't think I'm cut out for lots of wrapping with something like a Moby, which is why I bought the K'Tan in the first place. But I'd be open to trying something like that if it's a must have.
I have a Maya Wrap Ring Sling saved in my Amazon wishlist from a previous thread on here. Good option?
DS prefers the ring sling over all my other carriers. Yes, it feels quite secure.
I have a k'tan and don't like it (but honestly, I think it's just too big. Size down if you end up getting this!). I have a boba wrap on loan that DS doesn't like because it's hot. I have a mei tai that I love and am working with DS on (we took a 15 min walk in it this morning before he got pissed). And I just got a lillebaby yesterday that he took a 45 min nap in, so I'm in love. Lillebaby starts at 7 pounds, too.
I used my Boba 4G from the beginning with the infant insert. I haven't tried a 3G but guessing you could roll up a towel or small blanket to have the same effect. At that age, they have you fold the insert in half so it's like a ball. Baby sits on it and their legs tuck in rather than hanging out the sides of the carrier.

Don't buy a Moby. I have one you can use if you want to at least try it- I used it like twice with A because it was so annoying. It's very heavy and thick fabric so it's not super easy to wrap, and I couldn't get it secured tight enough to really move around.
I think i'm looking into getting a Solly Baby wrap this time, but I need to sell my old diaper bag and some other things to get some cash for it!
I love a ring sling with a newborn, and I still use it with my 2 year old. Very versatile.
Best value is Sleeping Baby Productions: www.sleepingbaby.net/ She's taking more orders Sept. 2. Maya Wrap is ok, but SBP is probably both cheaper and better.
I loved my Moby. After watching a couple YouTube videos I found it so easy and quick to do not to mention very comfortable. But I know it's not for everyone.
I also have a ring sling and yes it can be used from the get go. Again, there is a learning curve but once I did it a couple times I got the hang of it and it was quick and easy. I found the Moby and Ergo more comfortable because the weight was on both my shoulders. I had a hard time with the ring sling because it's all on one shoulder so once she got bigger I retired it. I'll use it again though for #2 as long as it's comfortable then just move on to the Ergo like I did last time.

Okay, this website is sort of overwhelming me. Can I ask which specific one you have? Or, just which fabric? I'm total sling newbie.
She's a one-woman operation, so she just opens every couple of weeks and takes enough orders to fill her available time. She ships all those, then opens for a few more hours to take new orders. It's a bit of a pain, but the resale on them is excellent, they're only $40, and you're supporting a small business.

I'm having trouble with the link, but $40 is the french twill, right? You're right, that is a great price. And THANK YOU for simplifying the decision for me, lol.
It won't let you buy right now - when she's taking orders, there will be a "add to cart" button on that page.

When you say shirt size, what specifically is it relating to? I'm often a XL due to my annoying giant boobs, but would probably be a M/L otherwise. If I were to buy one of these, which size would I get?

Go for the XL, particularly if you want to have extra tail to use as a nursing cover. Sizing isn't that important - it will mostly affect how far down the tail end hangs. So alternately if you think having a big piece of fabric hanging down will irritate you, size down. Same general advice goes for all brands.
Gathered or pleated is just personal preference. Both are good. I won't say a ring sling will be super comfy with a bigger kid, butiit's more comfy than carrying in arms. I use it for short periods at this point.

I just got a Solly Wrap and the fabric is really light and airy. I haven't used it yet but have tried wrapping it and I really like the video tutorials that they have on their website:)

I haven't tried a ring sling but I always hear good things. The Moby wrap was a little hard to get used to but once I did I liked it. I found the kangaroo wrap to be a million times easier and more comfortable for us. I use our Moby Aria now (has an infant insert built in, so awesome!) but would probably still use the wrap if I didn't buy the Aria.
After trying with the Moby a few times I learned I am not a wrap girl. I went to a local babywearing meeting and tried a few options, ring sling being one of them. I ended up buying a wrap conversion ring sling and have been very happy with it. Its a wrap cut in half and made into a ring sling. I get the gorgeous wrap material and support and an easier way to babywear
Any thoughts on a Sakura Bloom ring? I was thinking about picking one up tomorrow. I figured a Tula and an SB would have me set. It is so damn hot here she is burning up (as am I) in the Tula with an infant insert right now.

I bought a ring sling from SBP over the summer and I love it! She makes a great product and the basic ones are ridiculously affordable.
I have a Beco Gemini and it goes from NB and up. I think I started using it with DS1 when he was just a couple of weeks old and it was perfect. I still use it now because it's comfortable for me, but DS2 really prefers the ring sling because he can see better and be part of things much more than with the Gemini.

I have one in French Twill - it's awesome! The fabric is smooth and soft, but very supportive. I sized down because I didn't need a built in nursing cover and I knew extra fabric would just annoy me.
