Nervous about what exactly? Your safety or your flight? Your safety, absolutely not. Your flight? Well, it might not happen. With that said, these things are terribly unpredictable. I don't start really paying attention to the predictions until 36 hrs out.
Scott just preemptively declared a state of emergency, but for now it just looks like heavy wind and rain, not a major catastrophic event. It's still to early to say though.

My husband is working himself into a tizzy. I just made sure I have enough wine, put gas in my car and am crossing my everything that we don't have to put our shutters up.
Is it bad that I had no idea we're under a state of emergency?
No. I didn't know that and I'm part of the potential path. LOL As of now, you're far away from the storm's path. Now if it doesn't make the turn back east and heads out into the gulf, that's another story. Either way though, not a massive storm.

I won't start worrying until Saturday. I did get groceries and gas up the van.
I am hoping it isn't bad.
Haha sorry! I blame Rick Scott for us not knowing. He sucks and I blame him when I can
I'm stopping to pick up soup and get gas on the way home, but that's about all the prep I'm doing. Seems like we'll only get rain, which is nothing new.
floridakat - When do you put up your shutters? We've lived in our house almost 6 years and have never been through a tropical storm.
I told H he should put up the shutters, but a lot of people I'm talking to aren't going to bother, which seems a little crazy to me. But, like I said, this is our first time.

We are going on vacation and heading to the Sarasota area this weekend from the mid-Atlantic; I was concerned enough to consider canceling the whole trip.
I spoke with the manager at the resort who told me to ignore the weather reports. I don't know what to think at this point!
I don't think we've seen much since the chaos of 2004.
I read another article that said Wilma was the last hurricane to hit Florida. That was shorty after Katrina, so I only vaguely remember it. I know we had a tropical storm that affected Tallahassee in 2008(?), and work was canceled for a day. The only hurricane I've been through personally was Kate in 1985. Obviously I don't remember much, but some people were without power for a week and lots of trees down. I just read about the mudslides and loss of life in Dominica due to Erika. eta: I wasn't living here in 2004.
Yeah, if I was on an island, I would freak out about any storm. It's easy for us to say, "Eh, tropical storm or cat 1, we'll see what it does", but for them it's a different story. I always feel so bad for them because they almost always take the brunt of it, and it's always so much more devastating for all of those tiny islands. The news coverage this morning was really sad.

You will likely be fine. There may be some rain but unless it drastically changes course it should loose strength going across the state before it reaches Sarasota.

We're in the PB area.
I'm in your area! We will put up our shutters on Sunday if it's a cat 1 or higher. If it's just a tropical storm at that point, I don't think we'll shutter. Tropical Storms and Category 1s are much more about rain and flooding than wind damage. Once you start getting into high 1s, 2s and beyond, the wind is the real danger. However, I believe some insurance companies won't pay for claims if you don't shutter and sustain damage. So there's that!
ETA - I may not be in your area, LOL. It just occurred to me that there are at least two other places in Florida that use that abbreviation, and they're in drastically different parts of the state. I'm in the southeast area.

LOL! I just did the same thing when I read her post. "Oh, she's in X. Wait, maybe she's in y. Oh, actually, she could totally be in Z."
Is Jim Cantore there? That's when you worry, lol. However, it's been a slow hurricane season so he may be there out of boredom.
Haha! My dad had a slight obsession with extreme weather. Hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. He would always be like, "But where is JIM?! That's where it's going to go!"

I'm pretty sure you're just south of me. I'm north of West Palm.
ETA: I didn't realize there were so many! I was referring to Palm Beach.

Yep, we're in the same spot in the cone of destruction!

I mean at the least the weather will probably suck, so it would be worth considering.
if it's "just rain" for a couple of days, I don't mind, but a week's worth? Too much!
I am wholly unprepared at this point. I think I have a couple of waters in the beach bag I can pull out? I have some bread in the freezer and some peanut butter. What more could we need?
Honestly, if we get a shitton of rain, it WILL be a state of emergency in the Tampa area. We need a break.

I'm liking in understanding and agreement. We are screwed if we get too much rain.
