I'm bored so far. I mean get that we're back to the beginning of the zombie apocalypse now and that they are trying to build up the story lines for these people, but I wasn't a fan of either of the first two episodes. I'll stick around though in the hopes that it'll get better.
I like it so far. Although cmon, no one gets through withdrawal that quickly. I do kind of want Travis and his whole storyline to be eaten by zombies though. I don't care for him.
The mom and dad piss me off running around everywhere alone. Come on! I love how the conspiracy theory kid tried to stab the principal walker and couldn't. Thank you! It's a skill the Walking Dead makes seem so common place.
I liked the neighbor scene, when the mom wouldn't allow the daughter to go outside. I remember the early walking dead scenes where everyone shamefully admitted not helping and hiding or running while people got attacked. Some of them seemed weak and heartless early on. Watching it happens and knowing what we now know, it's the story of the survivors. A necessary evil.

I watched it last night. I thought this episode was better than the first.
I was nervous watching this episode because it's starting, the Zombie Apocalypse. People are dying/changing, the power is going out, people are panicking, and running scared. We know what's coming, but they have no idea yet.
Does anyone know the importance of the kids knife, he keeps asking for it back. I am sure there are other knives he could have, what is so great about the one that was taken from him? Or is it just a knife?

I liked this episode, but I actually think it is moving too fast. I would have liked more focus on the spread of the "disease" and character development. It feels like in a few more episodes we will be at the point where TWD started.
I feel like the high school kid looks like all of the old dudes on "Undercover Boss". He looks like the superintendent put on a wig and fake acne to look like a student.
All in all the lack of attention to details is going to kill this show for me. There is too much that I am left yelling "are you kidding me?" at my TV. I understand that these people don't know what is happening, but regardless they are making insane decisions.

I think part of the speed of it spreading and escalating is the point though. Everything is happening so quickly that no one has a chance to understand it right away. The oldest high school student ever had some good points about how when civilization ends it goes fast.
I don't understand why the woman and kid took so long to get the food, killed the walker, and then LEFT THE FOOD. It's not like they were in a hurry. The shots of them in the parking lot right after they were just sort of slowly wandering. GET THE FOOD.

Can someone explain why a teenager with a smart phone would have no idea what is going on and the parents are acting like they are sheltering her from the infestation? I am really disappointed by the show. On TWD, at least we had some character development. This show really feels like its missing something.
The other thing that bothers me? Who makes the decisions these people do? I mean, come on. Your step-son tells you about some horrific scene he witnessed in a drug-den abandoned church and you think, sure I'll just show up there alone, at night. And then when you do that, you fall into a pool of blood and instead of whipping out your cell phone and calling the freaking police you just wander on home to grab coffee and see the wifey at the hospital? No.
Right? 2 have died and one is sick, about to turn. Did the producers really not notice this?
Also, I am really hoping that annoying kid from the school who returned to the school to retrieve his $1 steak knife will not be a regular on the show.

Right? This "kid" who is totally in the know about how the apocalypse will go down randomly went back to his vacated school to get his letter opener of a knife.
It's got a bad horror movie feel to it so far. Very "hey, let's go hide out in that abandoned amusement park!"

Im.not sure I'd call the police either in a Crack house. Police don't operate in a vacuum They want to know how you got there and maybe if you contributed to the blood shed
Yet the police are already involved in this craziness with the strung-out kid. Would there be questions to answer? Sure, but I can't believe most people would just let that go.
dude the Mom saw what happened to the other guy and knows they are zombies yet when she sees the principal she's all "oh we can help you!" WTF woman??
I think the teenager was mostly coming for food but figured he should get his knife while he was there.
Are people just getting sick and turning or are they getting bit first or killed first and then turning? The principal seemed to be alone in the school so I don't understand how he turned.

I'm assuming someone came and bit him? But they didnt show anything.
I also want to know how the stepdad knew to look for the bite?

I thought it looked like the principal had been scratched down his back.
Maybe the stepdad knew to look because of the video from the highway where the dead body attacked the paramedic.

This is not a new phenomenon, black peoples always get killed off first. People have been noticing for decades and it's always the same.
I just watched. I don't mind "slow" in the sense that at the start of the breakout, people didn't know what was going on so there wasn't ACTION.
But I hate the slow where the mom goes to the school in a hurry to get drugs, then when weird kid shows up, she strolls to her office, strolls to communication center, strolls to the food, strolls w/ weird kid. And YES- she knows what's going on w. these people - she's all over ditching her daughters boyfriend who is just "sick" - but she'll walk up TO the principal when he's CLEARLY turned!?!
Then she and weird kid stroll to her car, she takes him home, blah blah blah. And gets home after it's DARK.
The son looks a cheap version of Johnny depp. The daughter drove me nuts but I remember how selfish I was at that age. Love the dad and the barbershop owner.
Why can't these people communicate? If they just said zombies, it's universal, people will understand and finally show some fucking urgency.
I read somewhere that zombies don't exist as a concept in this universe. That's why they're called walkers, biters, etc. These people might have legends about vampires and werewolves, but they've never heard of a zombie. So they don't have a word for it, and they don't have any preconceived notions about how to handle them.
I love watching "normal" people deal with the beginning of the apocalypse. They're still normal, everyday people. Taking the time to wash the blood off their truck hood before going to rescue their kid, because normal people don't drive around with blood on their car. Leaving the food at the school because they just KILLED SOMEONE. Their boss. Normal reactions to situations are out the window. They don't know what they're dealing with, or how bad it's going to get, or that they don't have to hide blood splatter on their shirt from everyone else because it doesn't matter anymore.

Agreed. Plus, the zombies are still fresh, not rotted and...squishy (for lack of a better term), so it makes sense that they would be harder to stab. Glad they didn't make it look easy.
I think the old high school student is out. I think his purpose was to just hint that this was bigger than it appeared and hint at how to stop the zombies. The feeble knife stab was a learning moment for the mom( I suck at names) she went full on head slam with that fire extinguisher instead of a gut check.
Of course the dad knew to look for a bite mark. I think this is an overthinking moment. He has seen one walker try to eat them as well as his stepson's account of his girlfriend gnawing down He wasn't looking to see if he was bitten, just if he was attacked. The shared silent looks meant that both knew a walker was involved. He just was looking for the damage.

THAT slow I can't stand.
All of this was ridiculous.
I think at this point part of the problem is that Madeline and Travis ( are those their names) are just starting to put 2+2 together like the illness comes from bites which is what makes you turn, but also you can just turn from dying too. I don't think Mom 100 percent gets what is going on. She is really new to this and knows that there is an illness, people turn into some kind of violent monster, some people get bit, others die.
I think the reason she left daughter's BF is because she thinks the virus is spreading like a " normal illness" meaning airborne.
The people in TWD universe have never seen a Zombie movie. There is no point of reference so they just do shit sometimes that we all shake our heads at. Especially when it's like their first day of the apocolypse.
Also Aleida better die soon because Caputo is going to realize she's not in her bunk at bunk check back at Litchfield.

I'm so torn on this show. On one hand, I love early-days-of-the-apocalypse stuff, for the same reasons others said--what choices do you make and how do ordinary people deal with extraordinary situations.
But these people are really pissing me off. What I love about TWD is that the walkers are really just a plot device and we're really watching how people can be reduced to their bare needs ad survival instincts in the face of devastation. So it annoys me when there's clearly some kind of fucking disaster going on (they've already killed Cal and the principal, so they know shit is going down) and yet they're behaving so irrationally. The dialogue is really bad, too. "Something bad happened here." REALLY?!

Kind of where I am too. I think that TWD handled the early days really well, even though they didn't really show what happened and just showed Rick waking up to the ZA. This show is kind of all over the place. I can't get past why the daughter would have no idea what is happening, especially in the age of FB, twitter, etc.

Look, the show has some major holes. Obviously. However, I think the majority of the population would absolutely be clueless about any apocalypse- even in the days of social media and cell phones. I mean, pop culture has saturated ius with alien encounters over the years. Even if a textbook Spielberg Alien was in front of me, I would hesitate to believe it was happening. If I saw a YouTube video, or even a flat out news report of zombies attacking I would take a day or two to wait for the official White House endorsement to believe what I was seeing. If anything, I think the age of social media and cell phones makes me more skeptical. Anyone with a camera can put things online and anyone with a computer can doctor that shit up.
