My mom has been saying DS reminds her of her own dad. I don't see it; grandpa was an old man when I knew him. So she hunts down this old time picture of him at DS's age and yeah. It looks like DS got his picture taken at one of those Olde Tyme Photo places on the boardwalk. She wins. It kind of makes sense, though, because DH and I are distant cousins via my mom's family- she and he look more alike than she and I do.
My niece's first child was placed through adoption with her foster family who are local. My parents saw them when the family was in Orlando last winter. The verdict is that she is me all over. Looks like me, talks like me, same body build, same coloring, same mannerisms. Blah, blah, blah. I was invited to speak at an Eagle Court of Honor for a scout who attends their church. The mom provides the catering for events and knew I would be there, so she brought her DD along so I could see her. One of the scout moms (who doesn't know the whole back story)saw her and said to me "OMG Auntie, if you'd had a daughter she'd have looked just like that little girl."
Oh yes. My mom even takes credit for DD's olive skin, even though DH has olive skin. I just don't care at all who/what my kids look like, and I have some sort of deficiency where I can't see resemblances.
Yes. My MIL and SIL did it so much I blocked them on FB. They even like to claim my children share "traits" with them like ... being bossy, enjoying toys, and reading.
Those aren't traits. All kids do them. Wtf.
My mom claims that alllllllll her friends just SWEAR both kids look like her. No. L looks like my husband and O looks so much like my dad's mom I call him Grammy sometimes.

My in laws do this ALL THE TIME about EVERYTHING. If MIL can't figure out a person in the her family to compare she will wonder who they get it from. Ummmm, perhaps their mother.
My kids all have blonde hair. My husband has/had blonde hair (he shaves his head). I had blonde hair as a child but my hair turned brown as I got older. I have mentioned this several times and they have seen pictures of my hair being blonde and yet they still ignore the fact that it is not all from their family. I think my MIL even said 'I didn't know you were blonde?' When looking at old pictures of me. I also have wavy/curly hair but my MIL still takes credit for both of my girls curls. There is even a picture (same picture) of my MIL as a child that her sisters say looks like A, V, or C (depending on the day and which one they can see). My girls are not identical they have similarities but their looks are different enough that this is not possible.
It took me a good two years of saying V looks like my mom before my MIL stopped comparing her to someone in her family.

My MIL does this to excess, but it never bothered me until last week. My daughter is my husband's clone - blonde hair (though his is red), blue eyes, fair skin. I am Italian in coloring, so quite the opposite. The comparisons to my husband AND his sister are all fair (they also look alike).
But, to my delight, I recently discovered that my daughter sticks out her tongue when she's concentrating - exactly like I do! I was chatting with MIL and I mentioned it to her.
Me:" Oh, DD has been sticking her tongue out when she's concentrating just like I do. It's so cute!"
MIL: "No, my grandfather used to do that. That's where she gets it from."
Me: (wilted) Even my husband was annoyed by that one.
Lol, my ILs go on about how much O looks like MIL. Which is not true, lol. It's too the point where MIL got irritated at a birthday party a month ago when a guest commented that O looked like me and MIL got all huffy. Chill, lady.
To be fair, I do think O is a pretty even split between H and myself as far as looks go, but we have the same coloring and general features so I mean, it is not particularly noteworthy.
