Oh, and at parent-teacher night, the teacher told us that E is the most mature kid in her class and really keeps her on her toes because he's so fast with his work.
MH and I pretty much stopped listening at "most mature" because we figured she had the wrong kid
I love his teacher. She has so much experience (like 20 years) and she doesn't see his constant talking as "annoying" she sees it as "brightness and intelligence". She called him a hard worker and a good listener. I feel like she really just loves him.
First day is tomorrow!! We are all excited. We met with her teacher this morning for a intro conference and I really like her. She's super friendly, warm and very open to communication. I'm excited for the school year.

Preschool starts next week. On Wednesday we go to the parent open house and on Friday I take the kiddo to meet the teacher. I am PSYCHED but I know I'll cry hard next Wednesday.
DS started Pre-K last Monday. So far so good! He loves it and his teacher said he is adjusting to the routine nicely. That was a concern. DD started 2nd Grade last Wednesday, all new school. She was so nervous to be the new kid but she seems to really like it and it's going smoothly.

The girls start on the 8th. I'm going to be gone from the 3rd through the 7th so I feel like I won't have time to dwell.
Molly's going in to third and has been ready since school got out last year. Her two best little friends are both in her class and she's pumped.
Lucy starts Kinder and I'm starting to get really sad. Logistically it's going to make things soooooo much easier but she's just so little! Their Land's End backpacks came on Saturday and it was too much. She's also so excited but a little apprehension is creeping in.
I'm going to be a mess. We always follow the bus to school on the first day and watch them walk in (from afar) and then go out for bloody mary's. Since I have the whole day off, I'll probably go home and continue drinking.

We are a month in, with all the expected difficulties. I love B's teacher and aide. We've had communication issues with the IEP team, the meeting next month will be rough. B melted down Friday and I had to go get him early. He's excelling at the work but the day is long. Just keep swimming I suppose.

We're in week three. Assessments (one-on-one, to see where all the kids are at) are next week.
So far, we have tackled hot lunch and the car drop-off line (now that no one needs to be signed in) and emerged victorious. I still pack their lunches 3-4 days a week, but it's lovely to get a break on pizza days.
DD1 (2cd grade) has had a couple of math sheets come home that I didn't realize needed to be done, and to her credit she has remembered them before bedtime. So she's keeping good track of things. She starts soccer this week, and this year she has TWO practices each week. Sigh. And DD2 has a mid-week practice for the first time. So between the two kids' soccer and music, all of a sudden four of our formerly leisurely evenings now have activities that being phased in over the next two weeks.
I hate their backpacks. They both wanted the Madpax with the spikes and got them last Christmas, but hadn't really used them regularly until now. The side pockets -- which we use every day for snacks and water bottles -- are either non-existent or almost non-functional. They're not deep enough to hold stuff securely. I see new PBK backpacks in our future.

I just came back from the meet and greet with the teacher. J decided not to go because he got the same teacher he had in Kindergarten and it's crazy week at his camp since it's the last week. I am so excited about this because I loved her. I felt like I won the lottery.
I thought she was amazing 2 years ago by keeping me up to date and calling me when J was struggling so much pre dx and pre IEP. They changed her to 2nd grade last year so I was hoping for the last year we would get her again. The school said you can't request teachers although more than 100 parents requested her. 6 other kids from his K class will be in there too. She had pics of the K kids on her desk for them to see.
DD starts 1st on Tuesday next week, and is super excited. We should be getting the letter with teacher assignment today, and then her teacher will visit our house briefly Wednesday evening and we'll see her classroom at open house on Thursday.
We have a new principal this year too, and he seems really excited and proactive.
Your teachers visit everybody at their home??
New principal's idea, I've heard of it at private schools but never at a public school like this. It's supposed to be 5 minutes or so at your front door, about 20-25 kids per class. Families can opt out.
I can't decide how I feel about it. On one hand it's kind of fun, but I also feel like I need the ain't nobody got time for that gif. It's probably a pain for teachers, and a 2.5 hour window on what's usually a busy evening for us for a 5 minute visit isn't really convenient either.
He's in preschool, and rides the bus most of the time. I used to pick him up, and I miss the daily interaction with his teachers.
Also, he's not eating his lunch. *wtf* I am fairly certain there are 4 kids and 3 - 4 teachers in the room. How are they not noticing he's not eating much of his lunch? H called the teacher today to ask what was going on.
E is coming home and melting down. Tired + lack of food = meltdown.

My classes have been going well. My work is so awesome with letting me take it easy as I regain strength.
DD moved to the oldest/more academic prek at her daycare. A lot of friends and one teacher made the move together. She's really excited and loving the challenges. I'm already so nervous about Kindergarten next year. This coming from the mom who taught K for 10 years.
