Thanks so much for all of your concern! I may have teared up a little bit when I realized how many people were worried about me. Sometimes I feel really alone and last night and today, you helped me feel much less alone.
Two friends came by and sat with me from 6 until 10. Then they moved me to a different ER room and told me neuromas on the way with new drugs to try. Fell asleep waiting and finally woke up at 2 with no visit from new nurse or neuro. Tracked down the nurse and finally got the neuro consult. He gave me some different drugs that didn't work, but he also gave me sleeping pills which did work. Wake up at 6 and the headache was gone. So they sent me home.
Since the MRI and Ct scan were clear, they were no longer worried about a brain bleed or lesion. So right now it's unexplained headache with a neuro follow up.
I have a lot of neck and shoulder pain - either from the tenseness of the headache or the lumbar puncture or both. So I'm still uncomfortable. But no headache so I'll take it.
I'm glad you're home and so sorry you've been going through this! I hope you get in with a neurologist quickly. Take it easy and rest as much as you can.
Glad the headache is finally gone, and it doesn't appear to be immediately serious/life-threatening. Hope you stay comfortable and can get some answers with the follow up.

Glad scans were clear and people were with you! If the next step is a battery of blood tests, consider a Lyme test. May be a reach, but always looking out for peeps. Headaches and jaw pain can be a thing. Hugs.

I second this toepick. I mentioned before DH was diagnosed with Lyme he has headaches that sent him to the ER a handful of times.
I'm so glad that the headache is gone. I wish they had an answer for you though. Hopefully you can get in with the neuro quickly and figure out the root of the problem.
Well, not really. I took them and an hour after I still had the headache. But then I slept and when I woke iut it was gone. So maybe.
I already have the referral in process with neurology.
They didn't give you anything to bring home / fill at your local pharmacy?!
No, they did. The last drug I had at the hospital. I filled it this morning and will take it preemptively every day for a month. Hopefully the neurologist can prescribe something for an attack.
Hi Toepick, do you think you might be having a cluster headache?
I don't know. I have had 4 separate headaches in 10 days. And I have never had a headache this bad in my life. But I never had any vision issues or sensitivity to light or noise.
Did anyone mention the term "thunderclap headache" to you? I am no doctor, but I've had migraines my entire life, and I think that is what you have experienced. Comes on out of nowhere, hurts like a mother from the get go and doesn't let up for hours. If you can find a neuro who specializes in headaches, like another poster mentioned, that would be better for you. I hope you find some answers and help soon, migraine and head pain sucks. Don't let anyone make you feel like you are faking or exaggerating, or drug seeking. Drs are not all in tune with what you will need, don't be reluctant to tell them!!
Hi Toepick, do you think you might be having a cluster headache?
My sister gets cluster headaches and they are nasty. She said narcotic and traditional pain type meds actually make them worse for her. Not sure if she takes anything daily, but she takes sumatriptan (sp?) for sudden attacks. Hope you figure out the cause and a treatment plan very soon.
