Has anyone ever used a self cleaning litter box? Our one cat just randomly peed on the carpet but then used the litter box so I have no idea wtf his problem is. But that plus us planning on having the litter boxes in the basement makes me want to invest in one that cleans itself. Any suggestions?

I've read mixed reviews which is why I was hoping someone here had used one. I feel like the one cat is being super picky but that doesn't really explain why he pees somewhere else, then uses the litter box anyways. But if we have the litter boxes in the basement, I just know we'll forget sometimes and not clean it as much as we should. I wonder if something like the Breeze or similar system works? Something not automatic?
I've never had one, but I know people who have used them and really liked them. I think it would be worth trying out if you can find a good deal on one.
estrellita Has he always peed outside the box or is this more recent?
It's been off and on. For a while it was just on tote bags and our winter jackets if they were left on the bench we have. More recently he peed on a Santa hat toy and the bed the other cat used more often. This last time it was a random plastic bag on the floor. We've taken him to the vet for antibiotics before to see if he had a bladder infection or something but it never helped. I don't know what his deal is. I don't know if it's a territory thing because he's done it before right after they fight. I'm hoping more space at the house will help but at least we won't have a ton of carpet for him to pee on and we're going to try being better about not leaving anything out that he might like to use instead of the litter box.
It really does. He's damn lucky I don't think pets are disposable because I've been very tempted to rehome him. And then I wonder who the hell would want a cat that pees on things? I just wish I knew why so we could fix it!
