We hated the cx5. I love the look of the crosstrek, but not much horsepower compared to the forester. Ground clearance super low on HRV. Don't really know much about the nissan.
I haven't been in a new Rogue but I love the looks of them. I did not care for the older model. I really like my Aunt's cx-5 and she does as well. I forget what year hers is. I have not driven it though; my opinion is from being a passenger. I do feel that the cargo area is a bit small; I am not sure how you feel about space in the cargo area.
I like the Juke, but I thought I heard this was the last year for US production. Not sure if that will play a role in your answer.
What about a Buick Encore?
Thanks for the tip orangeblossom we will look into it. Does it come in AWD?
We normally just default to asian cars...
I'm not sure about the Encore. I just like the look of it, and haven't explored it too much. It's more than what we want to spend right now, but they had one on the lot at Carmax, and it was very, very nice.

I had an old outbaxk that got totaled and just replaced. The new outbacks were also to large for me. I ended up getting a used Audi A4 avant and really like it. Same size as the older outbacks, and similar pricing as long as you get 4+ yrs old.
I was looking at a car at the gas station earlier and it was a Toyota Venza. It was next to me at the pump, and while it wasn't quite as high as my Forester (I have a 2007, before the model changded), it looked like it had about the same length. Looks like it got decent reviews too.
I liked the look of it, and would probably be giving it some consideration if I needed a new car.
We have 3 Subarus sitting in the driveway, 2 Impreza - a WRX and an STi.

I will sell you our Acura RDX. I love the way it drives and the size is what your looking for. Acura's go forever. My cousin just had to replace hers at 300,000 miles! DH had one he sold at 250,000 miles. We are only selling it because I need 6 seats.
I also like the Mazda. One of my friends has one. It is nicer inside than the Honda/Toyota, and drives nicely IMO. We also have a suburu outback. Its fine, but we don't love it, but it is DH's company car, and it was the best of the choices we had. It is bigger than your other options, but not a ton bigger.
I looooove my Rogue. Handles well, 25mpg, AWD is great in the snow. I wouldn't get it without the backup camera (rear window is really small) but that's my only complaint. It's a similar size to the CRV, but much more comfortable interior from the CRVs I test drove.

I had a 2013 CX5 for 2.5 years and it was a POS (transmission trouble 2x before 17k, lots of rattles/shakes, poor acceleration, etc). I wouldn't recommend it. I have a 2015 Rav4 Limited now and I love it!

Are you going for the MDX next? The RDX handles awesome, but I think the MDX is even better.
