I will sell you our Acura RDX. I love the way it drives and the size is what your looking for. Acura's go forever. My cousin just had to replace hers at 300,000 miles! DH had one he sold at 250,000 miles. We are only selling it because I need 6 seats.
I also like the Mazda. One of my friends has one. It is nicer inside than the Honda/Toyota, and drives nicely IMO. We also have a suburu outback. Its fine, but we don't love it, but it is DH's company car, and it was the best of the choices we had. It is bigger than your other options, but not a ton bigger.
Are you going for the MDX next? The RDX handles awesome, but I think the MDX is even better.
I was considering the new MDX or a Ford Flex, but I ended up buying DH's previous company car, a fully loaded toyota Hybrid Highlander, because his company sells it for wholesale to us, so it was 1/2 the price, with 40K miles that we drove. It was too good of a MM deal to pass up. My dad just got an MDX he loves. The ford flex is an underdog because it is a ford, and I have never bought one before, but for the money, with AWD, which we need for our mountain place, it drives the best of all of them and has a lot of great features.
I was looking at a car at the gas station earlier and it was a Toyota Venza. It was next to me at the pump, and while it wasn't quite as high as my Forester (I have a 2007, before the model changded), it looked like it had about the same length. Looks like it got decent reviews too.
I liked the look of it, and would probably be giving it some consideration if I needed a new car.
We have 3 Subarus sitting in the driveway, 2 Impreza - a WRX and an STi.
I actually had this on my short list when trading in my 08 Rogue (which has transmission issues...you shouldn't have it with models 2011 and later, but made me leary). I had the Rav4 (2012), Venza, CRV and Kia Sportage on my list. It came down to the Venza and Rav4. The Venza looks like a crossover, functions like a wagon and drives/feels like you're sitting in a car. If you can get the loaded package with leather, awd, etc. it's a great car, just wasn't for me. I like sitting up higher. Ended up with the Rav4 and LOVE It! I didn't love the newer models as much-felt smaller and I wanted more room.
My DH LOVES his Crosstrek. He has a 2014 we bought new in 2013. Its been great on gas, he hasn't had any mechanical issues, and it fits a ton of gear. He works in construction sales and keeps a lot of stuff in the car, and totes his kayak and fishing gear on a regular basis as well. The pick-up sucks and when he drives my BMW he misses pick-up, but that is really his only complaint.

Oh, how many miles?!
82K. It is 6 years old. DH has driven it. He drives like an old man. :-)
I'm following along -- I have a Mazda 3 hatch and want slightly more room so I've been looking at the Mazda cx5 and the Rogue... I think it's the mazda site that lets you compare the cx5 to other cars in its class so it's basically telling you what else to look at -- try that for ideas?
Another vote for the Outlander. I have a '14. They come in 2 sizes and have awesome warranties. I get about 27mpg all the time and I have the 7 seater.
I just test drove new Subarus this weekend. The crosstrek is essentially the Impreza hatchback that's a little higher off the ground. I loved the new outlanders but the sticker price on all the models I loved was 37k which is too much IMO. I love my '10 legacy but it's kind of small.
My husband has an Acura RDX and while it's a good car, the trunk space is not that great and it's a bit of a bumpy ride compared to his previous TL. The maintenance can also be pricey, new tires were twice as much as they'd be for my legacy.

We test drove the crosstrek and liked it. But this is really a car for my H and we will be keeping our existing forester. We also test drove a Nissan Juke which he really liked. It's a weird style but AWD and H loved it. We are going to see a gently used one tomorrow.
I love my Ford Edge, so I am submitting a write-in vote for that!
My current dream car! I drove an Escape for 9 years. I am currently 4 years into my Fusion. The Fusion was bought as an emergency purchase, but I do like it a lot!
If I am able to make a big step in my career next year and get a nice pay raise I really want to start saving for an Edge!

We bought the juke! It's not practical at all but H loves it. To make it MM, we bought one with 109 miles but it was a precertified used. The original owner had it for two days before deciding it was too small and upgrading to a rogue.
So our "used" car is basically a new car but we got it for $5k under invoice!!
Im loving my new Audi. I got the Q7, but they have the smaller Q5 (and mybe the 3). Even though the Q7 is a biger SUV, you wouldnt know it by driving it.
No way we would consider a q7 as its a ginormous vehicle from my perspective.
I would have considered a q5 but honestly my parents had an audi and weren't thrilled with the reliability and repair issues. Additionally it requires premium gas and the car tax in my city on a new q5 would be at least $2000/year. That is EACH year. Eff that.
Our new juke cost $23K. A new q5 is $40K. Those are not in the same price range at all.

I did something similar yesterday. Took my 2007 Santa Fe in for regular service, and found out it would need some expensive repairs in the next 3-6 months. I was planning on going home to do some research on whether to fix or replace, when I spotted a pre-owned 2015 Tuscon, with 3,600 miles on their lot. Previous owner returned it after 4 months to upgrade to the larger Santa Fe. They were selling for $6K off of invoice. Fully loaded (much more so than I would ever choose myself) but only $4K over invoice for the base model. Got them to double their initial offer for my trade, and drove home with the Tuscon.
I actually came on here to thank you ladies. I lurk here and I never, ever would have considered a pre-owned vehicle without your constant advice to buy used to avoid paying for the instant depreciation.

Yeah, the premium gas can be tough. Luckily Stop and Shop issues has points, so those help reduce the cost a lot.

I love my 15 Forester. Love. I haven't heard about any oil burning issues though. It replaced my 2005 Forester (which was properly maintained and did not last forever, thank you very much... haha).
The CrossTrek is awful. I had one as a loaner once and I hated everything about it. The interior was spartan, I hated the way it handled, and it's really small inside. I do think they're cool looking, but everything else sucks LOL.

Oh, and H has a '15 Legacy. Surprisingly, it is a lot roomier inside than the Forester, and it feels like a luxury car. it's actually super nice. I know you're not interested in sedans, but since we're talking Subarus...haha.
I wanted an Acura RDX but it was so bumpy on the road. I ended up getting a loaded Honda CRV and I LOVE it. Since you don't want to be sold on that, my H did get a Crosstrek in February. H likes it, great in snow, good on gas. He got a manual. He got a pretty basic model and likes my car better though. ;-)
