I got "Tula in the Wild!"-ed at the Orlando airport. I was wearing C and I was like hugely pregnant and crabby from flying and I just glared at them. There were two women wearing fancy wrap conversions on the airport train.
Then a few weeks ago I got another comment at Sam's Club.

I have had someone say it to me. I had not heard of the cawing before so I was confused and she explained it to me. I have never said it to anyone and do not plan to.

I've gotten more than a few comments or questions about the toddler one - it's purple and pretty, so some people comment on that, and a couple of people have asked specifically about it being a tula. I've also gotten "tula in the wild" once. Prior to that, I didn't realize it was a real thing and not an internet legend. I stared blankly at them and kept walking, and then I texted DH something to the effect of "omg, you'll never guess what just happened."
Never cawcawed, but people have said "hey, nice Tula!". There is a big baby wearing community in my town so I see a lot of carriers. It's just as common to get a "hey, nice sling!" when I have him in the ring sling. There isn't a specific love for Tulas.
I told my husband about this on vacation and he found it hilarious. He asked if I would ever caw caw and I said no.
Mostly I get shocked looks that there is a toddler on my back. The sales women at Ann Taylor had some sort of hushed pre-conference when they saw us and finally asked me DD looked comfy but was it comfortable for me? I could go to any mall around here and see a million of the fanciest strollers, but hardly any babywearers.

UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT:
For a kid that will accept both, I don't see how anyone on earth can think babywearing is more comfortable than a stroller - especially at a mall! Trying on clothing with a kid on your back is more of a PITA than leaving them strapped into the stroller. Malls are usually air conditioned, smooth pavement, elevators, etc. I don't get why someone would choose babywearing over a stroller. Your back gets sweaty, you don't have a place to put your stuff, etc. I'm assuming mall = suburbs and not having to deal with public transport to get there.
Basically, the reason why you see more strollers at a mall makes perfect sense to me.
We usually go to the mall to mall walk. If I am clothes shopping, I buy all the sizes and try them on at home. DD lasts longer in the carrier than the stroller. Though there is one mall here composed of outlet-ish stores, Target and Whole Foods that gets crazy busy in the middle. If we are at Whole Foods or Target, DD wants to be in the shopping cart. Then if I have to go into Carters, it would not be a good idea to let her loose. The carrier is actually perfect for her there, but this mall is also where I see the highest number of Stokkes. When she was tiny it was easier to take her in the stroller.
I guess I forgot to also mention I live walking distance to a mall and we go there all the time to kill time.
Never in my life. I had to stop following the Tula b/s/t page because of this nonsense.
Once, at the farmers market, which is basically like a babywearing convention, a woman commented that she "liked my Tula". That's as close as I've gotten. If someone actually yelled, "Tula in the wild", I would be filled with the German embarrassment. FILLED.

Wait, someone said this to you and then was like "you are supposed to caw back at me?" Oh good lord. I can't imagine what my face would look like if a stranger tried to explain that I was supposed to be making animal noises at her in public.
I am kind of horrified that almost 1/3 of Tula owners have had this happen to them. I am going to advise my pregnant SIL to avoid Tulas. This scares me.
I can not remember the exact sequence of events but it did involve her saying both Tula in the Wild and caw caw.
I have seen one Tula ever, period and I didn't TITW the poor woman. My Tula will arrive at some point soon (int'l boooo) and I don't give a shit if someone says it to me, whether I will reply back depends on where I am.
I baby wear daily, ever since having #2 it is a necessity. Even in the mall. DD has to face outwards on the stroller, which we can't do when it is a double and so I wear DS so she can face out. I genuinely don't know what I would do if I couldn't carry at least one of my kids most of the time we go out.
I had a lady try to once. She sheepishly came over and said, '"hi, I have that same carrier and it's really great and there's this thing and oh well nevermind."
I almost said it out loud but decided on, "oh yeah! okay! nice to meet you."
I forgot to add, my back doesn't get sweaty. Maybe this is the magic of a Tula?
swizz mine is not a cuddler either. I also like the snuggly feeling of her on my back. She id 25 lbs right now and I still feel comfortable carrying her. I also tell myself I'm burning extra calories hauling 25 lbs on my back. DD will usually giggle when I say "baby in a bookbag!" and it gives me all the warm fuzzies.
But if hadn't been for MMM, I wouldn't have even considered babywearing or really even known about it. (heart)

baby in a carrier > dragging a stroller in and out of the car
I'd still prefer to wear my 2.5 yr old over dealing with a stroller

I started to write out how we decide to use a carrier vs stroller and it turned into an overly complicated flowchart
But I will say that our grocery store is within walking distance, and I prefer to back carry and bring mom's old lady pushcart. That way I can use a regular grocery cart with a kid seat in the store, and fit more groceries into the trip.

If you baby wear, don't you then have to carry your phone and wallet? or purse? Or is there a pocket for these things? DD won't stand to be worn anyway, and I want to give her lollipops in the store. No way to do that if she's on my back .
