My boss is pushing for my raise/promotion and trying to pin down leadership on timeline and amount. Today she shared an update:
1. The promotion and TBD raise is approved. 2. They want me to take on a major new project, a big resume boost 3. They want to give me my first direct report (ever) 4. My boss is pregnant. I am her only support for our shared objectives. My company takes months to fill a position.
I told my boss I wanted a commitment on raise and timeline before taking on the new project, and that taking on management responsibility is a new dimension to what we'd previously discussed.
Would any of this change how strongly you'd go for this potential new job? Depending on my success at pushing for a raise, net-net the move might not be much of a bump.
Would the new job have direct reports? Is management your goal? As that is a hard step to break into, I would be likely to go with whoever is delivering that (assuming you want to manage.)
Do some reconaissance work on the new company. Recruiters are notorious for stretching the truth. So make sure it's somewhere you want to be.
Get everything in writing (dates included). See what the best option is at the end of the day. There is no reason to stop looking for a better position based on lip service that may or may not come to be.
