Update: I was able to get into the doctor this morning. They did x-rays and it appears to be just a really bad sprain. He is concerned that it could be a stress fracture that's not showing up yet, so if it still hurts in 10 days they want to do x-rays again. For now I have it bandaged with an air cast and they gave me crutches to use.
Thanks for all your well wishes and stories!
I'm such an idiot. I am home with my 6 year old, my husband won't be home for about 4 hours. I had just taken a shower and I was on the second to last step and my ankle twisted and I just went down. My foot/ankle bruised immediately and it hurts like a mother fucker. I had to have my son bring me clothes (I was in a robe) and help me get to the couch, then he got me some ice. I can't walk at all.
We were supposed to go to the state fair tomorrow Will someone bring me cheese curds and a pronto pup?? Lol
FYI that green thing is a ballon sword, I swear. Lol

Lots of ice and maybe have your husband bring home a brace. I did that when Jackson was a couple months old while holding him. Luckily he didn't touch the ground, but my ankle was swollen for awhile. I think it started feeling almost all better a few weeks later.

I'm sorry it happened to you too, I'm glad your son was ok!
If you can't put much weight on it, go get it x-rayed. I swear every time someone on here posts one of these stories their ankles are actually broken and they don't realize.
Falling when I'm home alone with my kids is one of my biggest fears. I'm glad your son was able to help you. Get some rest & I hope it feels better soon!
Keep some ice on that. I would have it x-rayed also. And, I might have x-rays done by a foot and ankle Dr. I fell two months ago and even though my foot wasn't swollen, I had x-rays done at urgent care because it hurt so bad. They said I had a sprain, and it would hurt for several weeks. After two weeks, when it still hurt and became swollen, I went to the foot Dr., and it turns out my foot was broken.
ouch!! I did something similar 2 years ago on my way out to get the mail. I got it x-ray'd but it was just a sprain. I iced and elevated for a few days and was back to normal in a week.

This EXACT thing happened to me this summer. Urgent care told me it was a sprain even though I was all bruised and the pain was exactly in one place. Two weeks later the fracture was finally visible on X-ray.
OP, you appear to have some ankle swelling. But that foot bruise is suspicious. Keep it elevated as much as possible, with tons of ice. If it's a fracture, the boot the doc gives you will be a GODSEND. Trust me. It looks stupid, but feels amazing.
ETA: google "fifth metatarsal fracture." Don't google image search, just regular google. That bruise, man. It's exactly what my foot looked like two months ago.

I fell down the stairs in a parking garage when my heel got caught in the stair grating. I broke my fifth metatarsal, had a bruise in that same spot.
