I've had three precipitous labors all starting at different times.
First was 4.5 hours and she was born at 3:16pm Second was 2.5 hours and she was born at 6:36am Third was 3 hours (probably so "long" because he was sunny side up) and he was born at 10:57pm
Damn. I was hoping for an overwhelming MOTN/evening response so I could try to stop obsessing about having a baby at work, or having to beg a ride from a coworker to get to my preferred hospital, or worst of all side-of-the-road with a coworker baby. Maybe I should focus my attention on how to pay for an extra couple weekso of leave and stop working at 38w...
DS1: labor at 7:15pm, baby at 8:54pm DS2: labor at 3am, baby at 4:08am DS3: labor somewhere between 9 and 10pm (I don't remember exactly, poor 3rd kid), baby at 10:44pm

I as isme your first was precipitous that's why you are freaking out?
After my first I was freaking out about subsequent babies. Especially because I was choosing to go much farther away to deliver them. I figured the only realistic time to go in labor with my second was 4am because traffic would be light and DH would be home and I'd be rested and what do you know I went into labor at exactly 4am. Like on the dot.
I worked up until I delivered all three of mine and I never went into labor at work. I was really afraid I would, but it didn't happen. And even my third labor I went to the grocery store at the beginning (dumb, it's a good thing he was sunny side up) and spent the first 30ish minutes of labor there and driving to and from. And it was still fine.
There is a psychological component to going into labor so you will probably be just fine. Also moms with previous precipitous labors generally are better at getting to their delivery location before the baby comes than moms who had a long first labor and think they have plenty of time.

Yes. First labor was short, second was precipitous and she was breech which significantly slowed things down. They both started MOTN though, and I will be leaving for the hospital as soon as contractions start, lol.
My panic over getting to MY hospital is that my OB is the only one trained to do vaginal breech births in the state. My DD flipped breech the day before I went into labor (I didn't realize at the time) and I didn't know she was breech until I hit transition. In case it happens again, I want my OB to be the attending.
Is that better or worse than a coworker? Lol. At least if I have a coworker drive my car there, I can have an emergency stash of supplies in the trunk.

My coworkers are still sad they didn't get to do a dramatic rush to the hospital with me, lol!!
My first labor was average (12hrs), but I only pushed for 15 min, and they said that's the part that's more likely to determine a fast labor the next time. So at my 40w appt with #2 (actually 39w5d) when I was already 4.5cm, the dr said come in at the first sign of anything, and if my water breaks at home, call an ambulance.
Two days later, still nothing, but I was losing my mind, so DH took me to the hospital to ask if I could be induced. When they checked me, I was at 6, so I got my GBS meds and hung out for four hours. They checked me again, 7-7.5, so they broke my water, BOOM, shit got real, and DS flew right out. Water breaking to birth was about an hour. Also a short time pushing.
There isn't going to be a #3, but if there would be, I want to live at the hospital starting at 39w. We live 45 min from the hospital, and I am 100% positive that if DH hadn't made me go to the hospital, I would have had a baby on the side of the road later that night.
Is working from home an option once you have any pre labor symptoms?
Maybe for a couple of days, but mostly I have to be at work unfortunately. And my DD wasn't born until 40w6d so an early delivery isn't guaranteed or even likely.
Why did I open this thread? I'm already nervous that I will have a car baby!
My first was a 12 hour labor but I also didn't walk around at 5cm/90% effaced for weeks....
I don't belong in this thread, but I wanted to reassure you a little. I was as progressed as you for about 5 weeks. They taught my husband how to deliver a baby because they said I would never make it to a hospital in time and an ambulance might not be fast enough. Well I had a 10 hour labor that included 3 hours of pushing, so a car baby isn't a guarantee.

I also shared that I was 5/80/0 for four weeks. Not sure if it was reassuring or depressing. Lol
Ha! It was a little depressing but helpful to know its not just my body being crazy.
I'm at week 2 of 5/80/0 (after 2 weeks at 3/50) so hopefully not too much longer.

Woke up with contractions at 5 am, DD was out at 9 am. We were behind a school bus on the drive to the hospital. Now, I did try to tell the baby that she couldn't arrive any earlier than my due date (which was a Friday) because I had too much to finish at work. She must've listened because she was born on a Monday morning, after a weekend of housecleaning :-)
