Chilling is the perfect way to describe this. It is scary to think how many people support these laws, which bring women back 50 years. The amount of traction these laws have in the 21st century is disturbing.

My husband was kind of like he got it, but didn't. The Ohio DS bill is what made it click for him.

I think that among your classic anti-abortion joe schmoe - they hear the restrictions and the propaganda and they believe it. That it does make sense to them - of course they should have admitting privileges - of course they should have scrub sinks.

How do we fight against that insidious illogical argument when it seems so logical to someone who literally doesn't know better?

By taking it out of the hands of the electorate.
Easier said than done, of course, but that's why fighting these battles in court is so important. Joe Schmoe Fuckwit should have NO decision making power over my body.

As a Texan this is infuriating. In the Houston area with a population of 6 million people there is only 1 Planned Parenthood that provides abortions. And less than 10 other providers statewide.

Women will start dying when they attempt illegal or unsafe abortions. Unwanted babies will be born to mothers who can't care for them. The people trying to take away our rights can't see that if abortion is limited any more the consequences will be much worse.

This is why your vote counts.  I don't vote straight ticket, but of the reasons I vote, individual liberties and autonomy are key.  I won't put someone into office who thinks that religious rights trump individual or civil rights, and appointing Supreme Court justices who want to overturn or restrict Roe v Wade is pretty darn scary.

This is crazy. It blows my mind that anti choice people care about it this much and are spending so much time, energy, and money in throwing up roadblocks. Don't like the idea of abortion? Don't get one yourself. But it's none of your business what other people decide to do.

Agreed. My number one voting issue is women's rights and reproductive choice. I will vote for any candidate who feels as passionate as I do about the issues. In reality, those candidates happen to almost always be Dems. 

I got a letter for the Planned Parenthood PAC the other day, asking for donations. (I already donate monthly to the Planned Parenthood Action Committee, which is why I was on the list, but the PAC is explicitly for endorsing pro-choice politicians in 2016.) I thought to myself, "Hell, I'd rather donate to this than to any political party, and also over most individual candidates."

Which is why those who are not Fuckwits need to be out in force. It's the louder voices of the Fuckwit family that gets heard, and those who listen get out and vote, leaving the rest feeling that their single vote doesn't matter so why bother.  Apathy elects more people than any group of Fuckwits.

(ETA: I assume you meant elect.  It would be lovely if they would actually *eject* them.)

And what's even more insane is that it's some of the very same people who are also anti-safe sex education and anti-birth control, in general, and also anti-social services for women and children.

I couldn't get through the full article yet since I'm still at work and don't want to cry at my desk. 

My husband said the same thing all the time, until we decided to get a second-trimester abortion. He wondered why we had to go out of our way, in NEW YORK CITY, to get the D&E. Then it hit him (after I also explained a lot of what was in the article). And as I've mentioned before, we didn't even have it that bad - just some bad traffic and overall inconvenience, but we have insurance that covered the procedure, we have sick pay, we have a car that we used to drive back and forth three straight days, etc. So yeah, I hate that it didn't dawn on him until we had to have such a shitty experience but if there's a silver lining here, it's that he saw that inconveniences in NYC = way worse in most other places and realized that his prior belief that nothing bad will ever happen was flat-out wrong.

I keep dwelling in this article and it is making me want to throw things.

There is so much awful stuff here, but the part about RU-486 is really making me wild. Five states have passed laws requiring doctors who administer it to use a dosage that medical evidence has proven to have greater side effects and be less effective.

Let that sink in.  I am really angry about all the stuff here. But we actually have a law on the book that is requiring doctors give women a dangerous,  harmful dosage when they could proscribe a dosage that is not only more safe, but also more effective.

If that's not bad enough, one thing the article does not say is that often, surgical abortions can't even be performed until 6-7 weeks into the pregnancy, so RU-486 is the only option for people wanting an abortion at 4-5 weeks. So it's not like women who want a very early abortion just have other choices. They have to live with the fetus in their body for additional weeks, perhaps further jeopardizing their physical and mental health, to avoid taking a dangerous dosage of a drug that could be administered in a safe way.

I keep thinking about this, and it's making me physically ill.  If you support a law that requires doctors to give women an unsafe dosage of a drug when a safe and more effective option is available, you are a misogynistic monster.
