I'm heading to DC for a long weekend and am looking for restaurant recommendations for dinner one night. We're staying at the Washington Hilton in DuPont Circle and would love somewhere close by. I would prefer something that's more casual than upscale and nothing too out there as my travel partner isn't the most adventurous eater. Bonus points if they can accommodate dietary restrictions, specifically dairy free. I've already done the usual searches on Yelp and Trip Advisor, but am wondering if there's any place lesser known that I might be missing.

Founding Farmers is one of my favorites and definitely allergy friendly. We were there last weekend with my SIL who is dairy-free, and they gave her a special menu that listed the dairy free items on the menu, as well as those items that could be modified.

We ate at the Elephant & Castle restaurant, on Pennsylvania Ave, and it was really good. I'm not sure if that's near where you'll be or not..... I think they have another location, too.
Check out St Andrews on Jefferson. Walking distance to DuPont Circle, great Belgian mussels, fries, and beer. Informal atmosphere.
St Arnolds is the mussel and frites place in Dupont Circle
I can't speak definitively on dairy free places, but casual places not too far from Dupont are Tico, Churchkey, B Too, Ted's Bulletin. If you are open to cabbing, Matchbox is in Chinatown and is casual.
