Well, since a lot of this thread was talking about illness, I'll put this here.
I've had intermittent pain in my lower abdomen for several months. I've taken too much time off work because of it and I know my boss is getting irritated; especially since I don't "look sick." I went to the doc 2 months ago, but it sounded like a GI problem, so we were treating it as such. Now that it is clearly cyclic, I went in again yesterday and pretty much demanded an ultrasound.
I have a 10cm ovarian cyst. And multiple fibroids. I feel so vindicated. I was more scared that they wouldn't find anything wrong with me. I'm scared of surgery, but relieved that something can be done. I'm relieved that I have an explanation for this pain and likely for some of the other symptoms I've been having (nausea, headaches, 7 months of unsuccessful TTC). I see the OBGYN surgeon on Friday.
I left my boss a VM to explain and he called back and said, "Don't even worry about work. Take as much time as you need. We'll handle it. I can talk to HR for you if you want." THAT made me cry.
PS - this is my new SN. Had to change because my mom is a stalker.
You live in Italy? omg you have my dream life. I don't care if you're living on the lip of a spewing Mount Vesuvius, that's my dream life. Yayyyyy for understanding the language, even if you can't quite make yourself understood all the time.
Thanks, Sue Sue! I'm not gonna lie; it's pretty fantastic.
OMG IM SO JEALOUS. Where in Italy? What do you do for work?
That just sounds so cool. Although, clearly, living where you cannot always tell people what you need must be frustrating, even if it is Italy. Are the guys as hot as they look in the movies? My son says it's the most beautiful place he's been;Sorrento is his favorite.
Yes, most of the men here are, like, surface-of-the-sun hot (and so are the women).
Sorrento is beautiful. Where I live, I walk out my front door and see the river to my right and the Alps to my left. That will never get old.
But living here is a challenge. I still have to do all the usual day-to-day activities (groceries, dry cleaning, etc.) with the added bonus of a language barrier. LOL
I live in Italy, and while I understand spoken and written Italian, I have a hard time speaking the language. I get irrationally excited when I hear someone speaking English. Lame.
I know this feeling all too well, except my grasp of the language is still beginner. I can read it, and I can understand a lot, but I cannot speak it, unless it is present tense and about 3 words long, LOL.

Yes! I still sound like a toddler most of the time. Or a caveman.

I like talking to little kids, because we get each other.

Well, my screen name kinda gives it away...
I am in the northwest corner of Italy. I consult for a US company that works with firms Europe.
Awesome! I bet you'll pick the language up I took Italian in college for 3 semesters before studying abroad. Once I got there all I could do was read it and barely understand the locals! Any of my lame attempts at speaking beyond "ciao" "si/no" and "grazie" were met with puzzled faces lol.

I loved Sorrento, I actually liked it better than Rome.

I have not painted my toenails once this summer. I prefer them bare but have always conformed to societal pressure and painted them anyway, but this summer I am standing my ground. lol.I totally agree. I like my toenails better bare too. It's fun getting pedicures but when the polish starts to chip and grow out I get a little sad.

This was me 3 years ago....and I haven't painted my toes since. I love tan feet and no polish. Pedicures are quick and easy now too.
