I am currently reading Counting By 7s. I really AM liking it so far!!
I am also hoping to start Ready Player One tonight for my book club in a few weeks
QOTD: thats tough. I usually WANT to give up as soon as I don't like it (i have my preferences and find somethign needs to REALLY interest me to keep me reading) I have only given up on one book , and made it through many others (my type a personality!) All of which i wish I would have given up on and focused on something I enjoyed rather than just "pushing through"
I finished Still Life and enjoyed it enough to look for other books in the series.
I just started Cockroaches by Jo Nesbo.
QOTD: some books lose me from the start. I got perhaps four pages into one really popular book recently (can't think of the name at the moment) and quit because nothing about the story interested me. I'm usually not that quick to quit, though. The last time I gave up on a book, I was a good 130 pages in. It's a fine line between getting far enough in to give the book a fighting chance and getting so far in that I feel compelled to keep going.
Jen Lancaster's The Best of Enemies. I am only about 10 pages in and can't stand the characters so we will see how it goes. I recently finished The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson and liked that one.
QOTW: I rarely completely give up on a book. I start new books and come back to it.

Did you like the Snowman?
I have a sample of Still Life on my Kindle, I might pick that up next. Currently between books.

It was a bit predictable but I did. It was far better than the other book of his I read, the name of which I've already forgotten. LOL Anyway, that's why I'm giving him another shot.
I'm reading Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay. I still have to get into it. It's also the second memoir/essay form non-fic I've read in a row, so...
QOTW: Some books after the first chapter. I've gotten as much as 75 pages, or up to about 15% or 20% into a book before giving up. I definitely don't give up if I'm 1/2 way through or more.

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. I liked her other mystery series but this one looks to be much better -- the characters are pretty kickass, so far.
QOTW: Some books I'll read a few pages and realize it's not for me, but I don't really count that as starting. If I'm iffy on a book, I give it three strikes -- if three things annoy me, it's time to quit. Once I get halfway or so, I usually at least skim to finish but I don't force myself. I'm firmly in the life's too short camp and I have zero guilt about leaving a book unfinished.

I finished Siblings Without Rivalry, which we are supposed to discuss on MMM at some point. I liked some of the tips, but also felt rather incompetent as a parent at the same time lol.
I'm a chapter into Echo in The Bone, but I also have The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean, which I think I will tackle first since it is shorter. It's about the periodic table (nerd alert!).
QOTW: I used to never quit, but now I allow myself to be less stubborn, especially if it's long. I aim for 10% or so. I recently gave up on something after the first chapter, but I didn't have high expectations going in.

Reading Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. I had to see what all the fuss on the news was about. So far, I'm enjoying it, but I've only been able to read 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there while I shuffle kids around. Am hoping to finish this weekend.
I'm almost done with Kim Stanley Robinson's Sixty Days and Counting. It makes me sad that our current U.S. government can't get its act together on climate change.
I'm listening to The Thorn Birds as one of my annual reading challenge books. It's interesting so far but I'm not very far in.
QOTW: a long time. I have a very difficult time giving up on a book. Maybe one per year?

Can I play along? I popped in hoping to find some new books to get from the library.
I just finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, last night, and I'm in the middle of The Signal and the Noise (Nate Silver) and the Crossed (Matched trilogy).
I try to stick it out, it's rare that I'll just give up on a book, but I kind of wish that I had given up on Wave last week before I continued on and bawled through an entire 4 hour flight.
I'm reading Alaska by James Michener and listening to The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. I'm enjoying both
QOTD: I rarely give up on a book so I don't really have a typical point where I call it off. Sometimes it will be one chapter, sometimes halfway through. Honestly most times I find myself continuing until the end and then saying "I wish I'd quit- what a waste." I guess I keep thinking it just HAS to get better.

I'm reading Monsieur Pamplemousse Afloat. I'm really enjoying it, but then I always enjoy Monsieur Pamplemousse adventures.
QOTW: It depends on the book. I try not to give up on any books, particularly books I pay for, but lately I've been coming around to the idea that life is too short to read books you're not enjoying if you don't have to.

Still reading All the Light We Cannot See. I started a new job this week and haven't had much time to read.
QOTW: I have a hard time giving up on books, so I will usually see it through. I try to be picky about what I start for this reason. I've let go of two books in the past few years about 20% in.

Welcome! How do you like the Nate Silver book? It's been on my list and I haven't gotten to it yet.

I like it! I read Rock Breaks Scissors earlier in the summer, and this is a much better read.
I'm currently reading The Handsome Man's De Luxe Cafe. It's light and enjoyable - exactly what I expect from this series.
I have A God In Ruins up next.
QOTW: I think I almost always keep reading, even if I don't like a book. I just stop reading as much as usual, which slows the whole process down. I can't really remember the last book I gave up on. I usually don't start a book unless I want to read it.
