Going for work and staying in the Magnificent Mile area and praying that I have my arrival afternoon to myself (fingers crossed that my meetings don't start until dinner time).
May I please have a recommendation for *the* best classic deep dish pizza within reasonable walking distance of that area (and that is appropriate for a solo diner)?
(Also, if you have suggestions of how to spend a free hour or two I'd appreciate it. Have been to the AI twice so something that isn't that. Thanks!)
I am not a Chicago pizza fan but there's a Lou Malnati's around there. I've heard Peaquod's is better from my husband, the pizza expert, but it's not a chain and isn't located as close.

Peaquod's is my first choice, followed by Lou's. These are the 2 I mentioned to you, V.

I was just there and we did Lou Malnatis - River North location which was close enough to MM for us to walk. It was amazing. Get the butter crust traditional - we tried a few to compare and that one was by far the best.
I've been to Pequods on previous trips and love that too, but when you are staying in the MM, I think Lous was the right choice.
We got there at 11:30 am and when we left at 1 there was a huge line.
Absolutely Lou Malnati's. Ugh - I was just craving Chicago pizza tonight soooo bad. Spoiler alert - you can't find it in Alabama.

We got a delivery on Friday and just had one yesterday for lunch. We have 4 more pizza's in our freezer. Is fresh out of the oven IN Chicago better? Sure. But trust me - this is pretty damn good too.

Ahh!! Thank you!! I completely forgotten I had sent this as a gift to someone once. Ordering stat.
We hadn't ordered it in years because we didn't have room in our freezer. We got a used fridge/freezer for our basement a few months ago. This was ABSOLUTELY the first thing we did - order Lou Malnati's! Ahhh.... it was wonderful.

How long was the delivery timeline? This may be a fun Christmas gift...

It doesn't say on the site from what I can tell, but is this their butter crust or just their regular crust pizza??

i didn't know there were options. I'll venture to say its regular crust. I even looked at the ingredients.

Bummer, their butter crust is ah.ma.zing. Not sure to worth it for the other crust - our waitress said the same thing but we tried both since we were there for the first time. She was right :-).

It's a toss up for me between Art of Pizza and Pequods, which is the least helpful response ever since neither is walking distance. Lou Malnatis is my third favorite, so I'd go there.
After all the mentions in this thread, I decided to go to Art of Pizza for lunch. I have never been and it is close to my office. I was very disappointed. The crust was like eating bread. Did I get a bad slice? Maybe it had been sitting there all day. Or, is it supposed to be a very bread like consistency?
Pequods is my favorite, followed closely by My Pi, but neither of those are close to you. If you want something close, then Malnati's gets my vote.

We just butter the pan before cooking the frozen ones.

It's been a while, I can't recall exactly what the crust was like but I loved it all. Sorry you didn't enjoy it!
I will give it another try. Maybe I had a bad slice for some reason. Actually, the thin crust looked really good when I was there. I think I will go back and try the thin soon.
Damn, I really want deep dish now. I was hoping that we could fly out to Chicago for a quick weekend in November but MH's work schedule doesn't offer enough time for it
