We keep thinking we should do this. At one point we were going to do the wall size map of the world from PBK on one wall and use colored pins but we still haven't.
I really like that you can completely customize & choose your size (aka, we do not have room for a huge one). The downside is that countries are grouped and not displayed separately in all cases to remain visually appealing (at least mine is. I think they have a more accurate one but that seemed cluttered to me & I wanted cleaner lines). I also like that it's a canvas wrap vs. on cork board.
Addtionally, I'm keeping a more detailed list on a custom Google Map (electronically). I've got cities & places where we have been & where we'd like to go. When you see them clustered on a map, it makes it easier to group & plan your next trip.

I've wanted a travel map for years and plan to ask for one for Christmas. I just bought myself a new desk and there's prime real estate wall space right by it that would be perfect to display it. I only started doing this in more recent years, but I take a 8 x 10 picture of each place I visit and then display it on the wall in my little study area that is the de facto travel corner (I keep travel guide books and narratives here). I know it's not a map but the wall has become the perfect visual reminder of past travels. It's nothing fancy, but on my blog I do keep a list of all the places I've been. It's as much a benefit for me as it is for anyone else who checks out my blog as it helps me keep track of it all.
One of my walls is concrete, and I haven't gotten around to borrowing a drill in order to hang something on it. So I ordered a vinyl wall sticker on Etsy along with a bunch of "pins" to stick on places I've been or lived:
So that it doesn't get too cluttered, I don't let any of the pins overlap. So for some places I don't add a new pin if it's too close to the old ones.
My more detailed map is online thanks to TripAdvisor.

I have only done the polls on Facebook and TripAdvisor. I'm a fan of maps but it wouldn't have occurred to me to mark off where I've been. I think these ideas look cool though.
We have this map in our living room and I plan on doing a gallery wall in our guest room/my office once I paint this winter. I love this map but it looks like the price has gone up since we purchased it.
