DH and MIL were all about me having a towel and garbage bag in the car. I was all meh about it. My water broke both times. lol. But, I never was like, SOPPING wet.
I did not. I was nervous about it breaking at work and having to have someone clean it up. But it broke at home on the kitchen floor. I was wearing jeans, so I'm sure that helped, but it really didn't make THAT big of a mess. I just took a towel with us to the hospital.
For both my boys my water broke at night at home. I thought about getting something but didn't really worry about it figured it wouldn't be a huge deal to have to clean things up.
DS1 I went to get up off the couch and my water broke, not enough to make a huge puddle more like I peed myself. DS2 pretty much the same thing, went to get up out of the dinning room chair and "peed" myself.
I didn't do anything. My water broke at home, luckily in my kitchen, after about 30-45 minutes of contractions. I sat on a towel on the way to the hospital.
We put a waterproof mattress on our bed, with the intention that it would also be useful after the babies were here. My water broke in bed a few days later (34 weeks, but twins) so we were pretty glad for that!
We did the same. My water broke all over the kitchen floor. Lol.
I didn't do anything with my first pregnancy. With the second one, I put a pee pad under the sheets 11 days before I was due. My water broke - in bed - the next night.
I told my H that the chances were super low that my water would break in bed, but he insisted on putting on a mattress pad. Good thing! Water broke middle of the night at ~38w. The mattress might have been ruined without the pad. But also, after birth I leaked milk quite a bit so it was still good to have.
We had a waterproof mattress cover and an old towel in the car. My water broke in bed without warning so I was glad we had the mattress cover. It wasn't expensive and saved our mattress both from the amniotic fluid and later from baby poop/pee.
In retrospect we had plenty of time for the car towel. That one was superfluous.

My water broke when I got out of my car and I was very happy to have a couple blankets in the car to sit on while I drove back home. I didn't put it there for that purpose, but if I get pregnant again I will definitely do it
I will this time. With DD, I leaned over to tie my shoes and my water BURST! It felt like a tidal wave. Insanity. It would have been awful if that happened at work.
Ugh, water breaking is so gross. I hated that sensation so much both times.
Amen! I thought my hate for my water being broken was because it was broken for 3 weeks the first time. I was so annoyed the second time around when it had been broken for all of ten or fifteen minutes.

With both I had a waterproof mattress pad. With my older ds, my water never broke and I had an emergency C-section. But it was nice to have the waterproof mattress pad when I got home and was sweating buckets from hormones and breastfeeding. With my younger ds, my water actually did break at home at 36 weeks. And I felt a weird sensation in my lower stomach that woke me up from a nap (I was already at home on bed rest), so I went to my bathroom and my water broke when I sat down on the toilet. So I guess I had a little warning, but if the weird feeling didn't wake me up, and I didn't have the pad on, my mattress would have been toast.

I didn't do any preparations last time. This time, we just bought a new mattress so I'm considering getting a waterproof pad. It's unlikely the break would happen in bed, but this mattress was expensive!

A nurse practitioner from work gave me a waterproof surgical pad thing for our bed. My water ended up breaking while I was standing in the bathroom anyway.
