Does anyone use My Fitness Pal? Is the calculation accurate in the amount of calories it suggests you eat? I'll admit I've never counted calories or really kept track of how much I eat so this is all new to me (plus I always go over the recommended calories per day). Is it even worth tracking if I'm trying to get healthier?
I'm not sure, what I did was ask my primary Doctor what she thinks is the right range of daily calories for weight loss based on my weight and stats and (she said 1500) and put that in manually so that I worked off that number. Tracking really helped me get a chunk of weight off and logging was useful because it helped me make better food choices.

I think it is pretty close. I am in a group right now that is using it to try and lose weight and it has given us all different calorie needs based on our weight, height, activity level and how fast we want to lose. I compared mine to a calculation the Insanity program uses and it was the same number. I like using the app because it keeps me honest.

I like it because it's easy to think you are not eating too many calories until you realize how much is in everything! And how many cookies one can stuff in without thinking....
I don't know about the calorie amounts. I always just kind of guessed on my weight so...
I should probably weigh myself and start logging in again.

I think it's helpful because I think it's easy to under/overestimate how many calories are in food. On e you get an idea of serving sizes/how many calories are in your typical meal choices you can pull away and just focus on healthy choices. Going too high or too low on calories can really sabotage weight loss efforts.

It's been GREAT for me. I don't always hit my goals but I have my fitbit linked and it gives me extra calories for working out and I'm still losing something everyday. It becomes a game and I enjoy it. I'm one of those people who works for stickers, so it motivates me to close out my day and read "If you ate like this every day, you'd weigh XXX pounds in 5 weeks." I've lost 3 pounds in 3 weeks after a stagnant year of working out but not losing.
Thanks everyone. Sounds like it does what it's supposed to do. Damn, I eat too much lol. I need to explore it a little more then I'll request for "friends". I need to change my user name first, too ?
I used it and lost 30 pounds a couple years ago. The summer has been brutal food wise, so I'm going back to logging again. It helps me stop mindlessly eating handfuls of oreos. I've put on almost 10 pounds over the summer, yikes. My screen name is the same there.
I also linked up my fitbit. I make my food entries on MFP and exercise is automatically added through the fitbit.

I do use it and I like it. I get frustrated sometimes because if I'm making old family recipes, it's hard to get the calories right. But it gives you a pretty good idea of where you are. I started doing it expecting to give up within a week, but it says I've logged for 63 days in a row, so you know it must be easy. I am losing weight much more slowly than the PPs, but it's coming off so that's good. And I'm definitely thinking about what I eat a lot more. Do I really want that cookie? How can one single cookie be worth 300 calories? I have to sweat for 30 minutes to take that off! And drink. I almost never drink any calories now.
