Do you feel you have superior taste in something? If so, what? Choosing restaurants? Music? Clothing? Home decor? Or do you feel you have terrible taste in something (but love it anyway? )
Example: I do not have an exceptionally refined taste in music, as is evidenced by my love of the "Now That's What I Call Music" cannon. But I like what I like, which is upbeat music appropriate for spin.
but isn't it like the people who say they are good judges of character are actually shitty at it? so if you think you have superior taste in something, then it probably means you don't?
kwim?
i have a feeling my comment is somehow going to turn into a flameful.
This question was inspired by a conversation with my CW this morning, who assured me she has superior tastes in many things (art, music, food, etc.)

LOL.
I'm sure that can happen, but sometimes people know their limitations. For example, I do not have superior taste in clothing. I know this. I do not care to spend the money or the time that some people do on clothing. I think I dress fine - I'm not rolling into work in sweatpants or anything - but I'm not particularly fashionable, either. My wardrobe is largely basic and boring.

I don't think I have superior taste so much as I feel like certain things are appropriate for certain environments. Ex my coworker who wears only leggings and skinny jeans with t-shirts and sits with her sandals kicked off under her desk with her feet up on a pillow on her desk and her keyboard in her lap - might be seen as more competent and professional if she didn't dress and act in ways that make her appear to be a college student.
When it comes to art, home decor, etc. Enjoy what you enjoy. I don't get modern art. I don't enjoy it. That doesn't mean I have good or bad taste just my taste. Same with home stuff, some people do beautiful things with antiques and country style operagirl comes to mind. Other people can do it and I love it when I see it done well, but its not my style and I can't pull it off. Does it mean its more or less tasteful than my home - nope just different.

I have good taste in shoes. That doesn't mean I can afford or want to wear the most stylish shoes every day, but I feel like I know what looks good and what doesn't.
I have bad taste in music, can't put home decor together, and I'm not particularly good at dressing myself.
I am always surprised when people say (admit?) to having bad taste in clothing, a la tacosforlife. I do understand not being interested in keeping up with trends, but I don't thinking your own clothing taste is bad. Like you are buying what you like, so if you like it, don't you think it's good? And if you don't think it's good, why do you like it? And if you don't like it, why do you buy it? I went shopping with my mother a couple weeks ago and we were in Nordstrom, I always feel overwhelmed in department stores (when I go to a brick and mortar, I go straight to a specific section, not a browser). There is just way too much choice in 2015. Anyway, I was thinking about this then, all the black pants there are to choose from, why would anyone buy black pants, for example, that he/she didn't really like? There are so many. I've also thought this about cars. So much choice.
Anyway, I guess I think my taste is good all around. That sounds arrogant and I wouldn't say that but for the question, but what the heck would make me like something if I didn't think it was great or looked good?
Eta - I just came up with something not good. I know when I watch trashy tv that it's trashy and not good taste.
Eta 2 - But on the other hand, I also think my quality tv taste is like the best thing going. I guess I'm just a narcissist .

Ah, but the question is about SUPERIOR taste. I think I have fine taste in clothing. I just don't think it's superior. I shop for things that I find comfortable and flattering on me. But I don't think that my taste in clothing is superior.

That's true.
I might have superior taste, but I've never had a superior budget, so there's no telling lol.
I have superior tastes in many things...hotels, food (cheeses and meats especially), specialty and luxury goods.
What I can afford to indulge in and how often is another matter.
Fortunately, most of the things that I really feel that are truly superior in my life have more to do with the people in it and that is probably more luck.
I think I have above average taste in makeup application and colors. It's easy for me to spot a quick "fix" on someone and I have to bite my tongue because it's rude to tell someone how to fix her face. I enjoy doing makeup for my friends and family and like seeing how excited they look afterwards.
I think my taste in clothing and home decor is averageish.
I have bad taste in food (cannot appreciate $$$$ restaurants), TV shows (bravo, please) and music. luckily my husband and I can bond on all three of those, so there are no inferiority complexes around this home!
I'm good at decor, mixing clothes/wardrobe & writing. I suck at gardening, conversational skills and overcoming my social phobia. Weird how I love to plan parties and give them, but don't want to go to one unless I have a "job."
Damn straight you are! I'm sure you are wonderful at the others as well, but I am always blown away when you show pictures of your home. It's so lovely

I like each individual piece of clothing I buy. I just do not have an eye for putting them together as an outfit. Like, some people can put on jeans, and a tshirt, and then say to themselves: "Hey, maybe I should just throw this button-down on top, then add a scarf and this bracelet!" And it looks like a great outfit-- a total package.
I put on the jeans and tshirt, and stop there. I look like I'm wearing jeans and tshirt.
Same with home decor. I like the individual things I buy, but can't seem to put them together to create a "homey" feel the way a lot of people can. It just looks like random crap on my mantle.
Regarding reality TV though, I am also a narcissist. I think I have the best taste in bad tv.
Am I the biggest asshole in the world if I say husbands? LOL. In all seriousness, I feel like I picked the best, and I am frequently aghast hearing about stuff my friends say about theirs. Sometimes I wonder WTF is wrong with my friends.

I've gotta say, I have really excellent taste in friends.
And superior taste in writing.
I'm also pretty good at putting together little tours for people I know well who have a day to spend in New York or Seattle or Helsinki (that one comes up infrequently).
Hmm I like classical music and art but not sure it's superior taste. I also like expensive champagne I'm not nearly as fancy as I sound right now, those are just things that fit this thread.
Choosing restaurants - I'm pretty good at planning date nights for me and H. I read a lot of articles on hip and happening places in DC and try to seek out neat places to go whenever we get to go out.
Beer - being a homebrewer has made me a total beer snob.
Food - I don't like a lot of processed stuff, don't really eat fast food very often, we make most of our own meals, but I do try to lean towards the healthy side so some stuff isn't as tasty as it could be.
Books and movies - I'm very picky
Zero taste - Music - I'm fine with top 40s crap Fashion - I have a little taste, but I don't spend my money on it Bags - I usually carry my stuff around in a little backpack Cars - whatever is functional and works best. We got a nice new car recently, but only because my parents generously offered to buy us one with money from my grandmother's inheritance.
