Thanks for the Miami recs, I know I used one from here, but I'm not sure which. I ended up going to Key West and snorkeling (which was hard and gave me a panic attack) and mostly lounging at the beach with my fellow solo travelers.
So I'm going to San Francisco next month for an event. Ideally Nov 13-17th.
I believe I'll be staying in the Tenderloin / Cathedral Hill area.
I'll have 2-3 days after the event and I haven't been to SF since I was 19.
Any recs on affordable things to do see? Google tells me painted ladies is close, so that's cool.
I will be traveling alone. I have a few friends I might meet for lunch / drinks etc. I know there's some locals here so I'm eager to here your suggestions.
Also, I don't suggest staying in the Tenderloin. It's one of the worst areas of SF.
Good to know, it's where the event is so I'm trying to stay close to that.
Any recs on surrounding areas?
Nob Hill, Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf are all fine although Fisherman's Wharf is touristy. Hotels can be a bit $$$ in those areas but if you plan on using Airbnb there are some decent priced properties in those locations.
If the location of your event is easy to get to via public transportation you might as well stay in a better part of the city.

Thanks. I'm not much for public transportation in new cities....it stresses me out and causes anxiety. I'll look into them and the cost of lyft or something.
Trip might only be 2 nights instead so I'm not as concerned on where I specifically stay. More what I can cram in on one day.
I know you said public transportation gives you anxiety, but thetrolleys and cable cars in SF are very easy to navigate, quick, and fun touristy vibe. You can buy a day pass for $17 from the driver. That includes the busses and subway too, but I'd think those would give you anxiety. Our hotel had a good map to use.
