My H wanted to turn on the heat at 69 last week. I refused and he gave me a really hard time about it.
I'd probably turn it on at 63, and set it to like 65 or 66. But we also have a kiddo who doesn't really get how to use a blanket and won't leave socks on his feet.
My goal is Halloween with no heat no air. It had gotten chilly, but yesterday, it was a hotbox in here. H turned on the air, but I turned it back off. I just think I shouldn't have to pay for heat or air in October and April. Put on some cozy socks, stay strong!
I usually try to wait for Nov 1st. Our first apt stayed warm more easily so we made it to Nov 1st. Our second apt/condo was super cold so we barely made it to mid Oct. Our current TH is on a wait and see as we haven't lived here through a fall or winter yet.
My house was 58* on Tuesday morning. I turned the heat on then, but only set it to 62 because it is still 75* outside in the afternoon. Nights are dropping to low 40s though. I think I draw the line at 60* inside!
I"m not sure. It's 70 in our house right now. It's cool but comfortable. I expect by the time it gets down to 65/64 and below, we'll be ready for heat. We try to hold out and I like bundling up anyhow, so I can keep myself warm.
I think it was like 68 in the house yesterday when I got home. I just pile on the layers. It will be in the 70s again in a few days. That's what I keep telling myself anyway.
Yesterday was a high of 61 and today a high of 51 we turned in the heat last night since we have kids. If the weather bounces back up near high 60's then it will go off again but I don't think kiddos should have to wear more than thermal pjs or long sleeves and their comforter to be comfortable. When it gets really cold of course they will put on more but I would rather be bundled up outside and be able to take off a layer inside.
We live in Canada and we turn it on when it feels cold. There's no waiting for a special day - some years it's earlier and some it's later but eventually it's gonna be on for the next 6ish months so meh.
Our strategy is usually the opposite - how few days can we have the a/c on over the summer.
We turned ours on last night as it is so cold in dd's bedroom. I turned it off again this morning.
My kids are old enough to keep blankets on, so we'll turn the heat on around 60. I looooove sleeping in a cold room, though, so 60 degrees for night time is fabulous!
Yes but it was gorgeous this morning. I'll take my 100+ to never have to shovel snow.
This is why I live in an apartment building! No shoveling for me! And management controls the heat (thank the sweet baby Jesus that we don't pay extra for it), so I don't even have to make the decision on when to turn it on!

We have snow fairies here. No shoveling for us!
(the landlord included snow removal in the lease, along with yard care, so that's all taken care of for us - after every snowfall, a private plow comes and clears the drives and sidewalks for half the street... the half that our landlord owns)
We haven't turned on the heat yet. Nor have I yet moved to the strategies I use to avoid turning on the heat as long as possible - usually with cooking things that need a long time in the oven, or on the stove, or in the crock pot, etc. Things that produce heat, basically.
The thought crossed my mind yesterday. I wasn't actually going to do it and then when we went to bed my husband said, "The temperature feels nice in here!" Anyway, I hold out until at least mid-october. We still have to put away the AC units. And do fall cleaning. And service our furnace. And clean out the garage in anticipation of putting the car there in the winter...
It is 55 degrees at noon - it was low 40's overnight. My heat is on!
Actually, my DH turned the heat on for me yesterday (he stopped home between activities), I was so happy when I got home and realized that. We have decided that we make enough money to be comfortable in our own home - with both air and heat. I'll cut back somewhere else.
I turned mine on, but we have a baby tortoise who can't get cold so its the perfect excuse! Even with his heat lamp it was down to 70 in his tank (should be around 85-90) so I had to turn it on. This gets rid of the guilt I usually feel about turning on the heat too early b/c we can't kill the tortoise so lets all be warm!
Another one? We have a light switch in our bedroom for the light on the back patio LOL
LOL ah the fun of living in a house someone else previously "upgraded." The second light switch in my master closet, which is off the master bathroom, turns on the outside lights for the backyard. There is no outside access from that part of the house or any of the bedrooms. It took me forever to figure out what the heck that switch did.
