MM, I love you, but why do so many of you insist on being cold in your own home? I don't get it. I understand wanting to save a little money, but come on! Is it really worth it to be cold to save a few dollars?
I don't know . It seems so wasteful to run it so early, but I am legitimately cold, so I know it is stupid not to run it! Also, when I finally do turn it on, it will be up so high that this will all be irrelevant, so I have no good reason outside of a strange principle. This is a fairly recent phenomenon for me, too, so I don't know why I'm being stubborn.

I said this to MH this AM when I told him about a friend who says he won't turn on the heat until December 1st. If you're cold, turn it on. There's nothing magical about a date on a calendar.
I am actually glad we tried to turn ours on early otherwise it would have been weeks later that we found out that the furnace is bust.

I'm not terribly insistent (don't have a date in mind), but I live in an area with big temperature swings so even if it's chilly in the morning (say 60 inside) I won't turn on the furnace if it's supposed to be 75 outside that day, just open windows to let it warm up naturally. In other words, I turn on the furnace when it looks like I'll need it for more than a couple hours.

We like to nickle and dime ourselves to death and then blow it all on fancy shoes. And purses.
The house was 61 last weekend. No heat. It is suppose to get up to 80 Friday so I am not turning it on. This chilly mornings are hard to get out of bed. I did get sweats out and blankets out.
We also have an automatic thermostat. The heat comes on if it is below 66. The ac comes on if it is above 74. We don't even think about it. Our heat has been running in the morning and I am sure our ac will be back on Fri when it gets back to the 80's.
