What are some things that you remember being freaked out about as a kid? I was 6 years old, and some cousins were watching the movie Nightmare on Elm Street, and there was a scene where the water bed swallows two people and spits out the blood and guts. Freaked me right out. I still remember the scene like it was yesterday and I only saw it once. It didn't help that at the time I also had a waterbed.
Our house was a duplex that had been modified to single family, so it had a long long hallway from the living areas to my bedroom. If I got up in the night I would be terrified of the darkness at the other end.
My family loved going to the lake, but swimming in water that is too muddy to see the bottom freaks me out, even now.

Yep, this is me too, though I can't really call it a childhood fear since it never went away.
I've actually never been much afraid of blood and gore type horror movies. I was well into reading Stephen King by my pre-teen years, and actually liked those types of movies too.
The one that did get me, though, was The Exorcist. I think I'd still have to cover my eyes a but even if I saw that today.
Oh yeah, I won't get in water that I can't see to the bottom. That is just smart IMO.
I was always afraid of the dark. I still kind of am. If DH isn't home I light our house up like a Christmas tree. After seeing Poltergeist 3 at a slumber party when I was 7 or 8 I was scared of mirrors. I thought I would get sucked into one. Ask my mom how happy she was to learn that we watched horror movies at the party. Ha.

OMG, OMG, OMG! That scene is the exact reason I stopped sleeping on my back, lmaooooooo

I actually want to watch that scene to see if it's as scary as I remember.
Omg my h had mentioned that water bed scene to me recently. Evidently, it traumatized many of us lol!!
When I was a kid, my grandma lived in an apartment building with indoor hallways and elevators. I was always afraid to look all the way down this one particularly long hall because I was sure I would see the twins from the shining!! And blood from the elevator. Sheer terror. King's novels pretty much scared/scare the shit out of me. Still can't believe my dad let me watch the shining when I was that young-totally not cool!!

Oh yeah, I've imagined that visual, too. For a while it was with pretty much any long hallway, especially the ones with a weird patterned carpet.
Fun fact: the carpet in sid's house (mean kid from toy story) matches the carpet from the shining...to give the full effect of how awful a place it is :0)

I was afraid of public pools for a long time. When I was younger we were playing in the pool and some dumbass adult jumped in right on top of me with so much force I hit my head on the bottom. I still get anxious when there are a ton of people at a public pool.
I was afraid of basements until I bought my own house. I think because they are dark and cold usually. My mom would send me down to get something from the freeze that was at the bottom of the stairs and I would run down, grab, and run up terrified. I am a total whimp though when it comes to all things remotely scary. I hope none of my kids are like me in that respect.

I was afraid of our gray, concrete unfinished basement, and especially the crawl space (that's where my parents hid presents!). Also was scared of lighting matches. Not sure why but couldn't do it until I was nearly in college. I don't know why my parents didn't get the nice wooden ones that I buy now. We always had those terrible cardboard cheap/free ones back in the 80s.
Always hated horror movies and still do.
One time at Girl Scout overnight camp, I had to go to the bathroom and didn't want to wake anyone up to go with me. I decided to just try it on my own. Had to go down a path through part of the woods, then cross a big field in the dark, then go into the TOTALLY DARK little bathroom on my own, and then make it back. I was TERRIFIED and sprinted back to the tent after peeing as fast as I could.
