Since another month just passed, does anyone have any MM updates or thoughts to share? Anyone jump on the market decline last month? Pay off debt that was hanging over your head? Take one step closer to early retirement?
I shared in a randoms thread a few weeks ago but I did search that unclaimed money database for my state and got a check for $340. Plus I cashed in some BoA points and got another $100. Woo! I love "free" money!
We paid off about $10k worth of SLs during Q3 this year. <)
We also just took delivery of a curved leather sofa, big round ottoman, and an amazing leather recliner that my pregnant ass has CLAIMED AS MY OWN. We had previously only had various hand me down sofas in the family room and it is amazing and comfortable to have big kid furniture. We blew about $7k on all of it, but oh well. With Hobbes coming, I'm not sure when I'd have that chunk of change (and feel free to spend it) again. Between that and our financial contributions to my brother's wedding (we're paying for the DJ, lighting, and a few other things) I feel like my next bonus needs to be used a little more responsibly.
We are more in spending mode than saving Our MM justification, however, is that I think the projects we are undertaking will add value to the house in the event that we have to relocate for Mr. P's work. Our deck was a mess so that has been replaced with composite. We fixed some fencing that was in terrible disrepair, painted some other wrought iron fencing, and added a screened in porch. This will add a second living area overlooking the pool and lake that takes this house to another level.
Due to the time of year we did these improvements, we've negotiated and saved $7600 between construction, painting, staining and furniture. We feel pretty good about that on a $19k (down from $27k) all-in project.
We did get our wills, POA, Medical POA, and Directives all completed.
We close on our new house on the 23rd so we've had a busy month. We've reviewed our life insurance and consolidated some policies for a better rate. We've also updated our home insurance.
On the other hand, we're about to put a lot of our savings into a down payment. We have the money and it was saved for that purpose, I just got used to having it accessible if needed.
I've posted about all of this before, but in September I paid off my student loan and my last credit card. I also opened a Vanguard IRA and am currently in the process of transferring all of my retirement money from my low interest credit union to Vanguard.
