A few days ago I asked about Pier 1 furniture and several people recommended using Cardpool.com or other giftcard resale websites to get a better deal on it than applying for an in-store card.
i had never done this before but found the amounts I needed ranging between 26% and 28% off between two sites.
The pieces we wanted regular price were $1700, on sale for about $1460, then I got a 10% coupon in the mail making it about $1395 with tax. I got $1400 in gift cards for $1072. So all in all, about a $640 savings than paying full price. This is basically a free cabinet that we bought. I got some extra too as we get closer to finalizing paint colors in the new dining room to get end chairs and rugs etc.
BUT WAIT. There's more!
I have sold a lot of our old stuff via Craigslist, Close 5 and Facebook yard sales over the last few weeks (we are renovating the basement and needed to get rid of old stuff to gut it).
The grand total of sales is $1080.
So basically, the whole set was free as I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket.
Winner Winner!!!
Thanks to those who suggested the giftcard places, i am going to watch those sites as we shop for new couches.
my only "complaints" are that it was a PIA with my credit card company and the gift card sites to buy such a large amount, but we eventually worked it out, it took longer for the card to get here than I thought and they sent it certified mail so I had to go to the post office to pick it up, but these are minor things. I used Cardpool.com, Giftcardbin.com and watched for things on GiftCardGranny.com, which compiles things from different sites to compare. I think there are referral deals for some of these if anyone is interested.
