14-16 mos ish, about when they started to really be a toddler with opinions and attitude.
I'm still waiting on J to knock it off. Tonight he dumped out the contents of his burrito and then wiped any evidence off the tortilla to eat it alone.
For those whose kids got picky, were they eating a large variety of things, and then all of a sudden didn't like foods they had once liked? Or was it just like anything new couldn't be introduced?
Mine would eat ANYTHING that we put on his tray up until about 9 or 10 months. Things that he was eating reliably, he started to refuse. He went from eating whatever we were eating plus some baby food and other staples, to eating only berries, mandarin oranges, and these weird, stinky corn puff chips. He'll eat a few more things now, but it's a work in progress. *See also: food-throwing issues. LOL.
17 or 18 months? She is currently 20 months and mealtimes are a battle that my H and I dread. Each day is different; sometimes she'll only want chicken nuggets and potatoes and won't try anything else. Some days she barely eats anything and cries the whole time. I honestly don't know how she ingests enough nutrition to live some days.
Dd2 became opinionated around 18 months or so. I wouldn't say she's picky-she eats a pretty wide variety-but only if she's in the mood for it. She doesn't eat a ton of meat and is hit or miss with her veggies, but some nights she'll go to town on her whole meal. She's just not a big eater in general.
She also prefers savory things over sweet, so I'm pretty sure she's defective anyway ;-)
Around age 2 for both - about food AND clothing. Damn it, I thought I would be able to dress them in whatever I wanted for much longer! I should have taken more advantage before age 2.
One, never. He will eat anything. The other, I swear he was born picky. He used to be picky about nursing even. At five, he's starting to show signs of outgrowing it but its slow going.
He started phasing things out around 14 months and now we're in full blown hide the vegetables mode at 19 months.
I'm really thankful he hasn't (to date, I know it could come) given up protein. He eats meat and eggs like a horse. He loves cheese/dairy so I can make thinks like egg muffins with spinach, broccoli, sausage, and cheese and he powers through the veggies. Quesadillas amd pizza are other favourites because he'll eat all the veggies as long as the cheese and bread is present. i am naively believing that he won't suddenly decide to pick out all the veggies from those things
