fryjack2 how many miles a week have you been running for half training? are you following a plan?
Depends on the week. I'll be running 12 today when the boys are in school. My half training is different than most people suggest. LOL. I add a mile each week for long runs ending on 13 for race day. I don't taper or top out at 10 miles like so many plans suggest.
During the week, I run 2-4 times. Distances of 4-6 miles. Usually around 4.5-5.
I also do Kayla Itsines workouts 3 times a week which I have been loving. Its a bunch of strength moves that are supposed to be a 27 minute work out. I just do each work out's exercise twice. Like I will do the 15 squat set twice and move on to the next one instead of the way she suggestes which is run through the moves as many times as possible for 7 minutes each block of moves.
I also walk a ton every day so that helps a bit I think.

I don't understand the 10 mile max run either in the plans. What? no way I'll feel ok running 13.1 when I've only run 10 miles before. Seems so weird. 12 would be ok I think.
when I ran a marathon that one time, I did a 22-23 mile long run instead of the 20 most plans suggest. I just can't be that short on the distance and be confident I can finish.
I created my own hybrid half plan a few times already and then keep not doing it so I don't think there will be a half for me this year. I just can't seem to get it together enough to run 3-4x a week regularly right now and it's only going to get worse now with it being dark more.
laurack I truly believe that runs during the week are not as important as the long run. 1-2 runs during the week of 3-5 miles, mostly 4 miles, are enough to keep your legs prepared.
I hate plans that top off at 20. You still have a 10k to run! That's an hour more of running by the time you have run 20. You need to be ready for that physically and mentally.
And 3 more miles after running 10 is more mental than physical. Unless you haven't run at least a couple double digits runs during training, then it is physical too.
fryjack2 whenever I look at runners world forum they have such a different attiude there. That having your long run be 50% or more of your mileage for the week is a terrible thing, setting you up for certain failure.
but I know when I did a marathon I focused on the long run. I tried to do a long run every week with maybe a tapered run every 3-4 weeks. So 7,8,9, 5. Then 10, 11,12, 6. Etc. Then during the week maybe I ran 2x, sometimes 3x. Sometimes once!
I don't think I ever ran more than 30 miles a week during training. Like the week I ran 22 I probably just ran 4 miles twice during the week and that's it. But I actually had a very successful marathon IMO. So I think maybe the low miles thing just works better for some? I know my body would fall apart completely if I tried to run 60 miles a week.

I didn't realize you had not run a full! Do you think you will?
I can't imagine every being able to fit the training in for that, or my aging body allowing it to happen anyway. But maybe some day ...

Yep, no full marathon for me! I think I've run 7 half marathons, though. I'm not sure if I ever will run a full. I always thought if I was going to, it would be while I was on a mat leave since I would have more time but it hasn't panned out. The half I just did, did have a full marathon up until this year. It was too expensive so they pulled it and just had the half, 5k, 10k and are cancelling the whole thing from this year on. I would have considered this course for the full.
