That was a fun night. Our power went out at 1am. I was awoken by DD's monitor beeping loudly b/c the child unit (in her room) was without power. I managed to sneak in, put battery backup in (by iPhone flashlight), and then DROPPED IT as I was fumbling to put it back on her dresser. Luckily she didn't wake up, but I woke up DS who started screaming about the "scary noise." Whoops.
My kids have a little cough, no fever, no other symptoms, acting completely normal. But I still feel funny about sending DD to school. I'll get over it.
I'm trying to get everything organized for leading DD's Girl Scout troop and my over-preparer/perfectionist tendencies are freaking out. I need to get over myself and just send the emails instead of listening to my brain, which is telling me I must have every duck in a row before I do so.
Times like these remind me that even though the tasks have changed from when I was working, how I approach them has not.
I hate how dark it is when I wake up. I was just lying there for a second to gety bearings and wake up...and instead I fell back asleep for another 45 minutes. Oops.
The kids and I had such a fun weekend at my parents!
My parents farm in an outer suburb basically and I forget how much that sucks (No Dude in the Escalade you can not pass a tractor with wagons on the RIGHT! at 65 mph!) but how awesome it is at the same time. We were all caught up for a bit and my Sister says, "Let's go shopping!" 15 minutes later there we were inside the Gap Outlet.
I love my sister. She loves people and doesn't care about image at all. Yoga pants and JD sweatshirt? Fine by her. Just get in the car. Shake the corn dust out of your hair first.
I am also never having more kids. I was up for 1.3 years with DS so I thought I'd be fine being up all night with my sister's 6week old who likes to party all night. I thought I was going to die by last night...lol. Too old for that ish all of a sudden. My sister really needed the sleep though and she felt great because of it.
DS was up every 90 minutes overnight. It was horrible. We were going to go to the doc in the afternoon but I am going to take him this morning instead.
My hair is so greasy from the season change or something. I bought a small fortune in new shampoo to try at Target. I also have a bucket full of half bottles to play with. Nothing seems to be working. I've used Wella/Dove rotation for almost a year now so I don't know why it decided to stop working on Tuesday...lol.
DD just feel asleep in my arms after nursing. I need to put her down and attempt to get another cpuple hours of sleep before my epic day of solo parenting all 3 kids until bedtime. Usually my mom takes the boys for me for a bit so I can just focus on DD and get a nap in during the day, but she's OOT. And it's a school night for DH, so he won't be home until 9pm.
I bought Christmas pjs for the kids on Saturday! And actually put a lot of thought into which ones.
PSA: If you live by an OshKosh outlet, so many cute Christmas pj options for cheap (the regular website also has some. They're just not $6.99 yet). A lot of knockoffs of the spendy ones I see here. I settled on two red footed sleepers with white snowflakes for the kids. We usually travel one day over the holiday and come back late so I like to put the kids in them on the way home.
No big plans today - the weather warmed up a bit so I may take a walk or run with DD in the stroller. I need to return a few things and get some work done, so hopefully DD will nap in the rock and play so I can get out my laptop.
My brother's wedding is this weekend in Chicago and I'm so excited! DS and I are in the bridal party. The logistics will be challenging (I have a feeling I'll be using the manual pump quite a bit over the weekend) but we'll figure it out! I need to try in my dress this week with the spanx I have to figure out if I need more!
I am jealous of mcfelix 's nursery. I love that DD is finally in her own room, but it really bugs me that it's not "finished." We simply don't have the money right now to buy all the finishing touches I want. So I'm bookmarking things like crazy, wishing I had the money to buy them. So far I've bookmarked:
-blackout curtains -curtain rods -crib bedding (skirt and teething guards) -decor from Etsy -wall decal
My mom visited this weekend and P cuddles with her. She'll just sit on her lap and lay against her and happily and quietly play with a toy. SHE NEVER CUDDLES WITH ME. I am so jealous.
That said, look how freaking adorable she is (umm, sorry it's huge):

I just need $200 to get this all done!
I got some of DS's wall decals from Zulily super cheap. They're by a company called Trafalgar Square. The remaining decals are by Blink and were a holiday gift from my MIL last year. I am not above asking for decor for a child who doesn't understand the concept of gifts yet.
It looks like we don't need blackout curtains. DS sleeps fine without them.
7:15 and Ds is still sleeping! I would be too but the construction crew right outside my window woke me. Ds hasn't slept past 7 in a looooong time, hopefully he isn't sick.
Home with ds this morning waiting for doc office to call us back with an apt time. I think he has an EI. Hoping my dad can watch him this afternoon so DH doesn't have to take more sick time.
We told the kids we're having a baby this weekend. We got it on video, and it was adorable:
DH: Do you babies like surprises? DS and DD nodding DH: Mama is making a very big surprise for you. It's a surprise only mamas can make. DS: What is it? DH: What do only mamas make? DS: Milk! Pumpkin bread! Me: Papa makes pumpkin bread, silly! DH: Mama is growing something for you. DS: CARROTS! Potatoes! DH: She's growing something in her belly. DS: A BABY?! DH: Yes! DS: A BABY! A BABY! ::frantic dancing, hopping, clapping, squealing, and kissing my belly::
(DD was excited, but reacted basically to DS's reaction. Sort of expected - she's only 2.5)
Both kids keep giving my belly hugs and kisses and saying hi to "apple," which is what we're calling the baby. DD even came up and tickled me, since "babies like tickles." I'm not sure they could be any more adorable.

I ahd a lot of residue on my hair. I started using Clear and its great. You can buy it at target.

I do use clarifying Shampoo. Either Neutrogena or Hair Food. Weekly.
I also got a really easy and fun haircut 3 weeks ago which involved cutting 6 inches off. I think it's just going to be more flat than I expected/the grease shows up easier.
I feel like I go through this every fall. I just can't blame it on babies anymore.
DD has been up since 5am. We traveled this past weekend and she had no issues with the 2 hour time difference, so I guess I can't complain that she's up a little early today. I dumped a bunch of books in the crib and told her to read quietly. Surprisingly, it worked and I got almost an hour of laying in bed time!
Oh man. Someone in my FB feed is complaining that kids get sick this time of year because parents lack the cojones to make them wear jackets even when it's cold outside.
Um, what? If you're going to blame it on things beside the return to the petri dish of school, at least talk about the recent sudden swings in temperature or the going from overheated apartment buildings to the cold air outside or the extreme dampness of the last week that is probably a great breeding ground for germs, but to blame it on parents who won't wrangle their willful children into coats? No.
