1. Mohawk Hudson Rivers 10/11 2. Good, actually. 8 miles. I didnt break 20 miles last week lol 3. This whole thing has been a taper lol 4. Ill be followong the same aqesome 3:55 pacer as last year. Maybe ill knock off a few seconds. 5. No one cares lol 6. Im freaking out. I had a full on nervous breakdown during my last full and im terrified its going to happen again.
1. 7 Bridges Marathon - 10/18 2. 16 miles - it was very hilly but fine otherwise. 3. I am in taper and feeling pretty good so far. 4. I am actually pacing someone else. It's her 1st marathon. She wants to try for 3:45 (BQ) but will be happy with anything under 4 hours. 5. Well my running friends are super supportive! DH is trying. It's not his cup of tea but he has gotten a lot better over the years. 6. I did hit over 200 miles for September, not my first time but since I haven't been training as hard I wasn't sure I would hit 200 all cycle. So that was my little AW.
Good luck ladies that have marathons this weekend.
1. What race are you training for? When is it? Freedom's Run, Saturday!
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? 12 rainy miles. It went well. Did the last 4 at pace easily.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? Relaxed, excited. Exactly where I want to be considering a short training cycle. I mean, I run a lot of weekly mileage, but didn't focus on long runs until September. This will surely hurt, but hopefully in a good way.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? I know this course well, so my pacing is very specific. The first half is mostly flat, minus a couple hills in Harper Ferry and a metal spiral staircase (which I will be walking!). Up to 16 I hope to be around 7:35-7:40. 16 is all uphill and IMO the hardest part of the course. Hoping for an 8:30. The rest of the challenging hills have some downhill too, so hopefully I'll keep an 8:00 pace. The last 4 are rolling, but nothing crazy. If they weren't the last 4 of a marathon I'd be able to keep that 7:35-7:40 again. But, well, all the mantras in the world might not help me there. Obviously I haven't put much thought into it. hahahahha.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? My H is supportive. He thinks I should stick to the smaller stuff, but sometimes I do too. Hence the retiring from marathons that didn't stick. Oh well. No one else cares, except my running friends.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? Nope.
Good luck to all the racers this weekend and congrats to everyone that ran this past weekend. It is a fun time of year!
1. What race are you training for? When is it? MCM 10/25
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? 20 miles. I think it went well enough, I was about 20 seconds per mile slower than my goal pace.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? I've only been tapering for 2 days and I'm not a complete basket case yet. It's coming though, I already started taking a vitamin c supplement.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? Start one pace group behind, don't blow up.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? They understand it's important to me, but I don't think they really get why.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I don't feel super prepared. I completed all of my runs except for 30 miles, but I just don't feel ready. It's weird feeling.

1. What race are you training for? When is it? MCM 10/25 and Richmond 11/14
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? I planned to run 22 miles, but I miscalculated and it ended up being 23. It went surprisingly well.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? I'm excited about running less mileage this week, but my left knee has suddenly started hurting. I hope this is a temporary thing. I always seem to get new aches and pains during taper.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? My plan for MCM is to run it only slightly faster than my LSD training pace and see how it goes. Depending on how MCM goes, I'll figure out my plan for Richmond.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? Most are very supportive, although some of them think I'm crazy.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I stopped going to yoga a couple of months ago (something had to give, and that was it) and holy fuck I'm tight everywhere now. I need to incorporate some daily stretching soon.
I am so so excited for all of you amazing ladies! I feel like we are the October board sometimes because so much race day magic happens for everyone here during this month
and al320, I call bullshit on your #5. We love you dearly and we obviously care about you and your marathons!
1. What race are you training for? When is it? Figuring this out as of the end of the week, but sometime in the spring
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? Uh, 8 miles. Please don't hurt me.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? I'll be in taper after this week for Ragnar TN, and I'd be feeling way better about it if I weren't sick, there weren't epic flooding on the roads I'd like to train on, and we weren't schlepping back and forth to MD every three days. But what can ya do. Time for those who say it's better to be undertrained than overtrained to put their money where their mouths are.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? Under ideal conditions, I'm a mild fader. So ideally I go out in the first half slightly faster than GMP, then the back half helps to average out to about GMP. This would have been perfect for Chicago last year except for the bathroom breaks.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? Mr. Cupcake is pretty awesome, and my dad is surprisingly supportive for big races and my tris. My IRL friends that don't run think I'm cray, but you ladies balance all of that out nicely
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I think #3 pretty much covers it. And it's still raining here today. FML.
Smooches!! I shouldve said everyone but my h&fers!!

1. What race are you training for? When is it? Charleston in January
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? My 15k yesterday was my long run. It went well! I had a 10:15 pace which is nothing compared to some of you, but that's my fastest long run pace. I would have had a PR if it was a half. I was struggling a little in the middle which was really messing with my head, but I definitely could have gone faster, so looking back on it i feel good about it. Especially when my fitbit said 170 floors at the end, because it was much more elevation that o realized in the moment.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? N/a
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? I don't think I'll be able to pull off negative splits. I can usually do the last mile faster, but I don't think I can do several. I want to make sure to not go out too fast, and try to stay consistent on splits. The 10:00 pacer at my race yesterday went out so fast, like 9:20. I was staying with her but then I realized i wouldn't be able to keep it up and slowed down, and of course caught her when she eventually did. I also plan to have a goal pace for my long runs this training cycle - for my first, I was just trying to get through the distance.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? Very. My h is pretty enthusiastic and constantly tells me I will hit that bq some day
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I guess my aw is my race yesterday!
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go?

I've been training for Chicago. It's my first full. It's this Sunday and I wish it would just get here already so I can stop freaking out
I'm obviously in taper, feeling pretty good. Just nervous and stressed, but it's all mental.
I'm hoping to keep pretty even splits so will be starting out at 10:00-10:15 pace, and will look to average 10:30. I know I'll be a little slower in the back half, but I was pretty consistent in my 20 miler!
My family is super supportive. Everyone is coming to cheer me on, and my H has been great about taking over with our 3 kids, and also running some shorter runs with me when I felt burnt out.
Last week I developed plantar fasciitis, and started wearing a brace right away. It feels better but I was so pissed. Months go by with no injuries, no lost toenails and literally one blister and then THIS 10 days BEFORE THE MARATHON? That's my vent lol.

Thank you!!
1. What race are you training for? When is it? Chicago, Sunday. 6 days...
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? 8 miles at race pace. It was good. Really good. Cloudy and chilly.
It was very zen though because there was a good size Marathon/Half Marathon going on in my town that morning. So instead of the normal 20+ runners and cyclist I normally see, I saw only 1 other runner. While at first I missed all the morning camaraderie that I'm used to on my long runs, I found myself really able to just enjoy the run and think about the fact that next weekend I'll be running 26 miles and realize just how far I've come over the past 5 years.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? emotional. full of nervous energy. One minute, super positive and the next, full of self doubt. So... normal? lol.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? Run 1-13 at a steady pace. Add in a calculated and planned walking interval for 13-18. Increase walking interval if needed 18-25. 25-25.6 - shuffle if need be, but finish running.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? Immediate family doesn't get it. But my husband and friends have been amazing. My bff who is also a marathoner (and who inspired me to start running 5 years ago) has been just amazing.
I'm sure dh is ready for this to be over so he can be done with pretending to be so interested in my splits/nutrition/race day details. Poor guy.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I feel like this whole week is an AW and a vent all at the same time.
1. What race are you training for? When is it? Chicago 10/11
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? 8 miles. It was pretty good. Pace was good. I have pain under my arch on my right side. I know what the problem is but there's not a lot I can do now. I will have to take some time off after the marathon.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? Still hungry...
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? Park it with the people in my training group who plan on maintaining the same pace we trained at.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? I trained with my friends so... pretty supportive.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I JUST hit my charity fundraising goal of $1500 this morning!!! I'm so grateful to everyone who gave so generously.
And my vent is - I didn't cross-train for the past two months. Like at all. Time just got away from me. Sort of disappointed about that.

1. What race are you training for? When is it? Baystate Marathon (10/18)
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? I only made it 9.5 miles out of 12. I was exhausted and it was windy and so cold. But thankfully my 5 on Sunday went a whole lot better.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? Hungry, tired, annoyed at everything, I can't wait for it to be over to an extent because it also means I get to finally move to NC.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? Hanging out with scm1011. Should be interesting to see what we can do. I also plan to walk the water stops.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? My running friends are super supportive and my nonrunning friends are also very supportive, which is nice.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? Had a great 5 mile run. Having a lot of issues outside of marathon training, I just want to be done with work and moving.
1. What race are you training for? When is it? Chicago, 6 days
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? I ran around a few blocks and it went okay. Cautiously optimistic that my hip is starting to heal up
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? I'm feeling fat and antsy - I haven't run in way too long
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? Go out slow, stop when my hip starts to hurt. 95% chance of a DNF for me
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? My DH is super supportive, the rest of my family is kind of "meh". DH is the most adorable spectator ever for marathons - he sees me at like 4 places, makes a good sign every time, etc
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I'm kind of a Debbie Downer about this marathon. I'm excited, but sad at the same time since I know I can't race it. Whomp Whomp...
1. What race are you training for? When is it? MCM, 10/25. TWENTY DAYS??!
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? It was...unremarkable. A little slower than I'd hoped, I had some hip/IT stuff starting around 17, and I was bored out of my MIND, but it's done.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? Only one day in, and today's run was great. Sooo... I'll be losing my mind soon. All the aches and pains will be kicking in, and I'll be convinced I'm broken.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? What it always is - go out conservatively (slower than goal pace), starting building through the middle miles, and go for it the last 6-7.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training? My family is very supportive. My friends? Well, you guys are my friends, so you're super supportive.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I really like my new shoes a lot! Vent is this IT think kicking up. Backing off on hip/glute work the last month or so is catching up with me. I'm in serious "patch it up" mode over here and am looking forward to a long break and some rebuilding/reworking.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I don't feel super prepared. I completed all of my runs except for 30 miles, but I just don't feel ready. It's weird feeling.
This!!! So so so much this. Well, more like almost 50 miles, but exactly.
1. What race are you training for? When is it? Boston Marathon 4/18
2. What was your long run distance last week? How did it go? I walked the .3 miles to my son's school and back.
3. If you're in taper, how are you feeling? N/A
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? No idea, but I should come up with something better than last time. Even though I kicked bottom, I have a feeling it won't work for Boston. I went out super fast so much so that I PRed my half (I still haven't beat that lol). The second half I was just clinging on and watching my pace drop.
5. How supportive are your family and friends about your training?H is super supportive. He's my biggest cheerleader. My parents and sister are going to come to Boston, which is really nice. But I can't really talk to my parents about running. They just nod and smile. That's why I have my fabulous MRTT group and you guys! They get it and we can talk endlessly about running.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? Assuming all goes well today at my orthopedist appointment, I'm going to try to go pool running tomorrow morning.
6. Any AWs or vents to share? I don't feel super prepared. I completed all of my runs except for 30 miles, but I just don't feel ready. It's weird feeling.
This!!! So so so much this. Well, more like almost 50 miles, but exactly.
We really are freaking out together. We should circle back in a few days and compare phantom injuries that have popped up.
1. Philly marathon, 11/22. My first! I ran the half last year that runs at the same time.
2. Did my first 20 miler on Sunday. I set out to do 18, but I was feeling good so I switched it to 20. I've been building up the 20 mile runs in my head since training began, so I figured F it - I'm just gonna do it now without worrying about it. It went surprisingly well, finished in just over three hours. I learned that I definitely need more nutrition on these longer runs.
3. N/A
4. My problem is that I go out way too fast, so I'm going to try my hardest to keep the first few miles as close to 9 min/mile as possible. I know this course and the first half is through the center of the city where there is a ton of crowd support. I don't want to fall into the trap of getting swept up by the crowd momentum and getting thrown off my plan.
5. My DH is really proud of me even though he's not a runner. I know that he's excited for this to be over; he picks up the slack with our two kids while I disappear for several hours on Sundays. My mom is super proud but thinks I'm crazy. None of my friends have run a full, so they don't really "get" the beast of the long runs.
6. I've managed to keep up with crossfit two or three days a week so I'm feeling really strong. I'm tired of losing my weekends, so part of me is looking forward to the end of the training.
4. What's your strategy for pacing your marathon? I know this course well, so my pacing is very specific. The first half is mostly flat, minus a couple hills in Harper Ferry and a metal spiral staircase (which I will be walking!)
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.
Glad I won't be carrying a bike with me! I'm curious how they measure this part of the course. Also, rain plus this will suck.
View AttachmentView Attachment Glad I won't be carrying a bike with me! I'm curious how they measure this part of the course. Also, rain plus this will suck.
Holy hell. That looks insane. Does anyone ever trip on that? I would be so afraid of busting my ass. On stairs. In a marathon.
Glad I won't be carrying a bike with me! I'm curious how they measure this part of the course. Also, rain plus this will suck.
Why? Why do races do this? We have a concrete spiral that a lot of our races go down & it's so annoying. This takes that to a whole new level. You're not being funny or whimsical race directors! We are not amused.
