I'm in Pittsburgh and was hoping to have a relatively inexpensive weekend getaway with H in the next month or so. I'm not sure what to do or where to go, though. If we can't find anything we may just use my aunt and uncle's cabin but there's not much going on around there. Niagara Falls is out because we don't have passports (the last time we went to NF you didn't need passports.)
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to try to keep it to $400 or less but fun. This would be to celebrate our birthdays.
Second Gettysburg. We wanted to do that for our anniversary.
I know this is going to seem like blasphemy coming from a fellow Pittsburgher, but... Cleveland? They have some great restaurants out there and that one street that's closed to traffic (East 4th? Is that it?) is pretty cool.
You could also get a quiet weekend away at Deep Creek - it's nice to just shut yourselves in a cabin for a weekend. Some of the places are expensive, but I bet you could get more of a condo-like place for less.
Colonial Williamsburg is free to walk around, it only costs money if you want to go in the buildings and talk to the reenactors. It's beautiful in October.
Didn't you give him a list of birthday gift ideas last month like tattoos, sex and puppies?
Yes. But I don't expect to get any of those things. I don't expect to go anywhere, either, really.
In relation to my job, I have things worked out with that + we are getting "extra" money from family for our birthdays. We wouldn't be going into paychecks to pay for it (which is why I had a limit.) thinkofthesoldiers
Oh then I can see why you wouldn't want to do that. Despite living around 3 hours away, I've never been.
Wait, I think I went to the Canadian side to get drunk when I was 19. I don't think we actually went to see the falls.Â
Sorry, I didn't mean this to sound harsh or to put it down if anyone else enjoyed it. I grew up in the area and a lot of it is very depressed/depressing. IMO, the Canadian side is much cleaner and nicer.

All I remember about the Canadian side is that we all crammed into one hotel room and it struck me as very... trashy boardwalk style. Isn't there a "Ripley's Believe it or Not" there? Or did I just get really drunk and forget where I was and what I was doing? This is definitely possible
Some are ridiculous suggestions, but there's also a lot of good ones in there. INCLUDING GOING TO SEE THE ELK NEAR ST. MARY'S. God dammit those elk are cool as hell.

Love Williamsburg! I've been trying to get my H to go, but he'd rather do other things. Great place and you can do it on the cheap. Don't buy tickets to Colonial Williamsburg. Just wander the streets, get some gingerbread and hot cider at their little stores, eat at a nice tavern. Now I want to go.
There is also the wine region of NY. I love Ithaca, NY. We've only ever camped there, but you may be able to find a reasonably priced B&B and visit some wineries. It's so beautiful!

My H and I took our DS a few years ago and had a freaking blast, but it definitely was like the boardwalk. We had one of the worst meals ever there. It was in a flying saucer.
Yes, there's a Ripley's. We had so much fun, though, doing Maid of the Mist, the Butterfly Conservatory, etc., but downtown was, uh, different.

Yes there is and it is still better than the American side.
