Normally soft-spoken Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson suggested shooting massacre victims could have banded together to save each other during a Tuesday interview on "Fox & Friends."
"Not only would I not probably not cooperate with him. I would not just stand there and let him shoot me," Carson said. "I would say, 'Hey guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.' "
Carson was asked about his hypothetical behavior as a response to media reports that the shooter in Oregon on Thursday asked people about their religious affiliations before shooting them.
Watch Carson's interview below. His comments on the Oregon shooting start at the 5-minute mark.
Is this motherfucker calling these victims cowards? Or saying they should have "tried harder?" That he would have been different? I know this is not what is happening. Nope, he must mean something else, right? Right?
Why yes, why didn't the victims think to have a little inter-massacre pep talk and coordinated attack?
Truly, of all the nonsense that gets spewed, the most astounding thing to me that people have no grip on the reality of such a situation. That it's not a slow motion movie scene or a video game, it's in fact utter chaos and instant death with little or no time to think. I mean, really.
Ah yes, the John McClane plan. Other Carson plans include: the Will Smith maneuver for when aliens invade, Procedure Bourne for when a spy goes rogue, and of course Operation X in case of mutants.

I think that the vast majority of people who think they would be heroes in this situation wouldn't react the way they think they would in the actual reality of the situation.
I don't know about you, but if there was an active shooter right outside the door of my office, I think I would freeze in total fear. It's pretty sickening that this asshole can just stand there and say what those victims SHOULD have done when he has never been in that situation.
What an asshole. How disrespectful to all of the victims and their loved ones. This is honestly what people think - in a crisis situation, I'll react differently.
It reminds me of Mark Wahlberg saying he would've prevented 9/11 if he was on the plane as originally scheduled.
Yeah, with a semi automatic and a large magazine the shooter could probably take all of you down pretty easy.
Anyone who advocates this position needs to put their money where their mouth is and do a simulation like in the ABC video ttt posted.
Thinking about semis has made me think about fully automatic guns. It seems that I never hear about criminals using them, which is confusing since banning guns is totally ineffective and criminals can get them easily anyway. I think I'll ask about it the next time I'm debating gun control with someone, which will likely be depressingly soon.

Aha. Yes. I remember this line of reasoning after 9/11. Why didn't the passengers band together and overthrow the terrorists? American's need to man up. Etc.
This reminds me of the spider in the car conversation. Sure, we all like to think we would react the "right" way, but fight or flight isn't something you can control. Some of us are going to freeze and pee our pants, some of us are going to instinctively step in front of the gun to save people, and some of us are trying to get the heck out as fast as we can. I don't think this is something any of us can predict and for all we know Mr. Carson is in the freeze and pee group.
And hopefully this is the end of his ass. Bye Ben.
No way. The gun nuts operate under the delusion that they could save people in this type of situation - that's why they always need to have their guns on them.
This isn't his only asshole remark, but it certainly is his among his WORST. I can't decide who is a more awful person, him or Trump. Between racism, misogyny, others-shaming and self-importance, they're on a pretty level playing field.
Both should shut up and quit taking up space, time and media. Let some *real* candidates speak so the Repubs can actually get a decent (if they can find one) nominee and talk actual policy.
Or maybe they should just keep up the clown show, because this circus just makes it easier for the Dem nominee.
ETA: As for the title, Oh, yes he would. As lurkingaw so perfectly said, he's a "freeze and pee" (or maybe Duck and Run to save his precious self) kind of guy.
ETA2: ChillyMcFreeze I love your siggy. I read it every time I see it, with a "hell yeah so true!"

And in other GOP asshole candidate news.... Jindal: Oregon Gunman's Father Is A 'Failure' Who 'Owes Us All An Apology'
talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/jindal-oregon-shooter-father In a lengthy blog post published on his presidential campaign website Tuesday, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) claimed the father of Oregon gunman Chris Harper Mercer was a "complete failure" and demanded that he apologize for the shooting.
In the blog post -- titled "We fill Our Culture With Garbage, And We Reap The Result" -- Jindal blamed the prevalence of mass shootings in America on "deep and serious cultural decay in our society," jumping from a condemnation of violence in media and a reference to abortion to a discussion of the reported absence of the father of the Harper Mercer in the young man's life.
"This killer’s father is now lecturing us on the need for gun control and he says he has no idea how or where his son got the guns," Jindal wrote. "Of course he doesn’t know. You know why he doesn’t know? Because he is not, and has never been in his son’s life. He’s a complete failure as a father, he should be embarrassed to even show his face in public. He’s the problem here."
The father, Ian Mercer, has told the media he believes the shooting wouldn't have happened if gun control laws had prevented his son from accessing the 13 weapons linked to him during the investigation into the shooting, which left 10 dead including Harper Mercer. It's been reported that Harper-Mercer's mother Laurel Harper had bragged prior to the shooting about the stockpile of firearms she had been collecting, and that she and her son were frequent visitors of the local gun range. According to the New York Times, Laurel Harper and Ian Mercer had divorced about a decade ago, and Ian had not seen his son in the two years since Chris Harper-Mercer moved to Oregon with his mother.
"He brags that he has never held a gun in his life and that he had no idea that his son had any guns. Why didn’t he know? Because he failed to raise his son. He should be ashamed of himself, and he owes us all an apology," Jindal wrote. "When he was asked what his relationship was with his son, he said he hadn’t seen him in a while because he lived with his mother. Case Closed."
Jindal went on to call out "shallow and simple minded liberals" for blaming "pieces of hardware for the problem."
"If anyone is at all serious about changing any of this, they must address the root problems, and those are cultural decay, the glorification of evil, the devaluation of human life, the breakdown of the family, and specifically the complete abdication of fathers," Jindal wrote.
Bobby Jindal can also go rot. Yes, let's address the cultural decay leading to this. With common sense, mental health care (maybe counseling or parenting classes in the event of divorce), better paternal rights and access, gun control, harsher sentences for white-collar crimes, and a host of other things that Dems have been trying to pass but it's too "big government" and isn't "killing babies" related.

Well today I learned that at Jackson's school, their "stranger in the building" aka active shooter plan in classrooms that have offices is to put all the girls in the office and line the boys up outside it (basically the main goal is "out of sight").
I would love to know what fuckwit thought the above was a good plan; separating the kids by gender and setting the boys up as some sort of human shield if someone gets through the door.
Jackson's actual classroom set up is different than the ones with an office but I don't know how many have officers. I'm pretty sure his classroom is an exception to the usual set up.
