Can anyone recommend a good carrier for DS2? He's 30 lbs with low tone(so it's like dead weight) and about 33 inches long. He can't walk, has good head control but weak core muscles and his belly is huge. I want to get one for our cruise. I'm not hiking or anything but I figured it would be nice for going to shows or something where he will want to sit in my lap anyway.
I have a knock off mei tei but I am not really proficient with it and I haven't tried in a while.
Thanks! I hadn't heard of either and both look perfect for what I need.
In looking these up I found an org that gives carriers to families with children with special needs. They help with figuring out what you need based on impairments.

If it's not 3.21 carry, look at them too!
It's Lift Me Up:Babywearing to thrive. I'll check that one out too.
I think he may be too small for the toddler tula. I had a mei tai with G, but I think that's for sturdier babies/toddlers. I really like my ergo that I just got. I've carried W in front (obviously smaller, by same type of tone issues) and I feel like he is tucked in securely but can see all around. I've also carried N on my back comfortably and she's 35ish lbs.

Glad you said this because I felt like JH was going to dive out of the mei tei and I thought it was my issue. He is nosy, starts to lean and just keeps going.
I still use my ergo with my 33lb, 38inch girl. She doesn't have tone issues, but it's nice to help support a piggy back ride because she sure stinks at holding on. Is there a babywearing international group by you? The one here is $30 for a year membership and you can check out one carrier a month. It might be a good way to try out a variety and they give great advice at meetings.
I use my ergo with my kids as they get bigger, too, but if I wasn't buying one until they were older I'd get the ones for bigger kids. I'm not sure about the kinderpak, but I I know the Tula comes up higher than an ergo, which I think would be useful for low muscle tone.

Almost positive kinder pack has the highest back on the market.
